Hi there,

R/h side (closest to wheel) rear caliper piston on 00' plate fazer has seized, and despite all efforts ive only made it worse by pushing it half way out. The other piston is move-able, but still very difficult.

Tried:
Screwdrivers + can of WD40 - just bend to point of snapping
Long piece of wood tapped in, cracked in half eventually.
V shaped wedges of wood tapped/hammer in - no joy.
Tried pumping it out holding l/h piston in - not enough power and it begins to flex the screwdriver holding r/h piston in.

My solution so far - bleed back brake badly, leading to it completely not working. This lets me ride without fear of mashing my rear disc, but obviously can not fit brake pads in so just spinning freely.

Is there any way of opening the caliper up to sort things out/other suggestions?

How about fixing it?

Remove from bike, Strip, clean pistons, new seals, new fluid, sorted.

try dangling the caliper into a very hot bucket of soapy water.. i use squeesy.. give it a good clean .. & soak it for a short while & try again.

after that its new seals time

New seals due to arrive tomorrow - its just i dont see any way of getting the pistons out to put new seals in!

We're talking a good 2hrs of effort with various methods. Not tried the pneumatic method ive seen mentioned on here - Would a foot-pump be capable?

My other issue is if these calipers touch, there's no way in hell I'll seperate them again - will they fall out before touching or not?

Also, I've used carb cleaner to clear em up, then WD40 to lubricate trying to get pistons out.

A seized calliper will likely mean your piston is seized, if it's seized, it's not likely to come out easily! I removed the bleed nipple and inserted a car pump. Eventually the pressure built up and the piston came out. If you're using this method make sure to have your hands well clear of the caliper or use a peice of metal to stop it flying about.

If its still connected to the system you could try just splitting the caliper and pumping the break; the pressure from the fluid should force it out.

One thing you can try that works but is a little dangerous......take off the banjo joint to the caliper. If you have acess to compressed air with a final control valve with a rubber nozzle You can blow the piston out by blowing high pressure air through the banjo port behind the caliper. Usually 100 # will do it. What I do is hold a heavy towel over the half caliper removed from the bike.Open a small passage to the caliper fluid entrance port. Try not making a reel tight seal at first and then gradually increase the pressure or time pressurizing from short blasts to longer till it moves. When she blows its easy to catch the piston in the towel. Beware if not held back that piston will blow at 100 MPH and kill something.

Get a G Clamp to hold free piston in while you pump the stuck on out.

Used this method to remove all 4 seized pistons from my Hornet
