PostPosted: 09:33 - 19 Apr 2013    Post subject: Insurance Avoid List Reply with quote

So there's a lot of scattered posts and threads about insurance companies giving us a hard time.

How about we have one list here?
I could link to the threads in question so we have explanations too if you want to justify your hate for them
Obviously this should be taken with a pinch of salt, often people don't read their policy completely, but also insurance companies often make their own rules and laws up!

BCF Avoid List:
    Hastings
    Bennets
    Green Insurance Co/Express Insurance
    Equity Red Star
    Swinton bike insurance
    MCE
    Swinton

BCF Recommendations:
    Ramasis Insurance
    H+R insurance
    WickedQuotes
    Carole Nash
    e-bike
    Admiral

I would recommend H+R insurance, they have been really helpful with some issues I've had.

Agree with this.

Bennetts are good. I have had very few issues and the tele-folks are usually very competent too.

MCE on the other hand Laughing

MCE can do one, nothing but hassle and price changes.

I'm with ramasis. After everyone raving about them on here they were the best for me. Although its through equity red star.. Which on your list is one to avoid.

Hey ho, don't have any intention of claiming

Mixed messages about Bennets when searching on here, they often come up cheap on quote comparison sites.. Any verdict?

Glad to hear about H+R, i'm insured with them now, they've given me a 30 day temporary cover until I check and return all my documents and details, with no admin charge to amend them as far as I know (until the actual policy comes into place)

But I did the quote via bike insurer and for some reason my claims come out on the cover note as hitting a stationary car, sent them an email and they've corrected it no questions asked.. Not got to restriction proof stage yet though Gagged

MCE added to avoid, although I had no real quarems with them I must have got lucky

I actually had to phone eBike a few weeks ago, as for some reason the website wasn't accepting my credit card payment.

I've never spoken to such a happy, bubbly, joyful person when dealing with any insurance company or other call centre. She was efficient as well and got my payment processed with no trouble. Very Happy

Haven't had to make a claim tho Thinking

ebike added, heard they're good from a lot of people

https://www.bikechatforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=239300 regarding swinton, making up their own laws, will leave them out of both lists for now but i'm edging more towards avoid Razz

Think of it this way, insurers will see this list and up their game, forcing them to get competitive by 'monopolising' the companies that aren't shit

Hastings are SO terrible CAG have a dedicated subforum for Hastings incompetence!

https://www.consumeractiongroup.co.uk/forum/forumdisplay.php?329-Hastings-Direct-Hastings-Insurance-Services

Also I award Equity Red Star a special Middle Finger as they are the useless pillocks who by being negligent and telling lies caused me to be left by the roadside, in the rain a hundred and fifty miles from home. Thumbs Down

i said i would not renew my policy with them at the end of that year as was changing bike and cover type

then followed more than 30 phone calls to try beat the quote i was given

then an auto renewal came for

the wrong bike
the wrong cover (tpft instead of fc)
at tripple the price of the insurance i bought

i rang to give them a bollocking there and then

they are still trying to get money out of me now for the policy that does not exsist

If you have an insurance avoid list, it'll end up with every insurer on it...

Carole Nash were really good and would have stayed with them but when I went from a Busa to my Street Triple R they wanted silly money (why Carole, a busa is faster than a STR, really!) so went with MCE.

I've had no problems with them, by far the cheapest and gave me 15 months insurance for the price of 12 last time Thumbs Up

Ho, ho, ho... and so the fun begins..

Good luck with those tossers (and big ed)... Thumbs Up

Honestly it could be OK but if you have 'issues' then do not be surprised if MCE exacerbate them. Crying or Very sad

I'm with Green Insurance Company aka Express Insurance broker and Equity Red Star as insurer.. If the list is correct then I'm screwed Laughing

They were cheap though Wink

EDIT:

Just got a quote for my ZX6R (fully comp)..

THE BAD: Express Insurance £93 per year (excess £350)
THE GOOD: H&R Insurance £361 per year (excess £500)

Sorry I would still go with the bad guys Wink

yep heard that too from a friend who had hers insured through that shower also caused me grief trying to get proof of no claims out of them

Best steer well clear in my opinion.

Been with a few of the above.

Swinton ok service but the admin fees / cancellation fees are ridiculous, had a policy with them that cost £62 or something small. When I wanted to cancel half way through the year it was going to cost £65

Ebike may have changed but was insured with them a few years back and had to make a claim and it was awful. I still think if I hadn't of been on the phone ringing and pestering them everyday I'd still be waiting for my cheque now.

Bennetts was insured with them for 3 or 4 years with no issues. Left then went back, put the wrong start date on the policy paid for it online then realised. Rang them up to change it, and they wanted me to pay for another and then they'd refund me for one of them in 14 days, told them bollocks and went elsewhere and got a refund.

Was insured with NIG through lexham years back and they were spot on, service wise and when I made claim.
