 |
|
Filtering through to the front of a set of traffic lights, relatively quiet only 3 or 4 cars in queue, can be 20 or 30 at peak. Going straight on, car going left, was into the 'safe' bicycle area a tad. My rear wheel was just ahead of the car occupied by two people driving a stereotypical Nissan for their culture, (currently pirating the seas ... without trying to be too Krad!).
I feel an itch in my boot, then it starts to feel like pressure, look down and the car is creeping onto my boot. Release foot and boot wheel which should've shook through the steering wheel, look over shoulder and they are both staring into space. At that point the lights changed so I leave, figuring nothing can be gained from remonstrating.
I consider myself good at filtering and I don't take chances, but don't hang around, such as the tit who passed me on the wrong side of a mini-roundabout (which is more or less straight lined anyway) on a Fazer further up the road.
I do completely understand leaving enough room alongside, but what baffles me, my top box is quite wide at the rear, would probably have been at mirror level. I'm on the floor with flat foot, no tipping, so bike not at odd angle.
I was quite literally shocked.
I've had a couple of close calls in 7 months, nothing serious and usually my fault (which assists in learning), but this was probably the worst.
Bizarre? Discuss! ____________________ Currently: Yamaha DT 125 LC2,Repsol Fireblade, and Bumblebee MSX 125 |

Light controlled pedestrian crossing? If so, I can see two traffic offences that you committed, gangsta. Ride like you're in the jungle, something something Krad something. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

If there were zig-zag lines, then it's an offence to pass ahead of the foremost part of a vehicle which is stationary for the purpose of [complying with the lights].
So you've (probably) committed two offences: overtaking the closest vehicle; and proceeding past the stop line (into the pedalist box). You've already done the crime(s), why sit and wait for the lights?
I know, everyone else does it, pedalists are worse, and all the usual reasons why everyone knows that the rules of the road don't really apply.
But perhaps where the Nissan drivers came from, they don't know that, and everyone nudges bikes too, just friendly like? Someone needs to tell them that in this country, we pick and choose a different set of laws to ignore. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

I've had a car go over my foot before when waiting at the lights, thought at the time it was going to break my foot but just a lot of pressure as the Tyre rolled over.
Best I've had was a women closing up on me while i was filtering on my old R100GS with aluminum side panniers which scrapped along the side of her new BMW taking a lot of her paint off, She didn't notice or stop which is no surprise as she also did'nt notice me filtering. I also did the same last time l was in morocco but just ignored the rag head when he got out of his car and started shouting. ____________________ Past:NRG50,AF1125(x2),NSR125RR,ZZR250,CX500,VFR400,KR1S,ZZR600(x2),CB400N,YZF1000(x2),KH125,Z200,FX400R,CBR954RR(x2)GPZ500S,GT550,VFR750F(x2),RD350N,XR650R,CBR600F,CB250,KDX250,YZF750R,CRM250,400EXC,KLR650,TTR600RE,DR350S,R100GSPD,RGV250,VMAX1200,DL650,KZ750 Present:G650XC,C12,CRF450X,1190ADV |

Ah, then in that case only 1 'crime' it's not zig zag it's a junction and I am aware of the zig zag rule (because of here incidentally) and do obey this without exception. More often than not, the zig zags are there for a damn good reason! ____________________ Currently: Yamaha DT 125 LC2,Repsol Fireblade, and Bumblebee MSX 125 |

I was in the car on Friday, there were some temporary traffic lights at a 4 way junction. The inside lane which is left turn only anyway was suspended. A bike came alongside me, round to the front (ok with that), then carried on until he was pretty much in the middle of the junction way ahead of the stop line, no 'safe' area here. Thought that was a bit extreme. ____________________ Currently: Yamaha DT 125 LC2,Repsol Fireblade, and Bumblebee MSX 125 |

I should qualifty my moralfag to note that I consider most traffic signs to be advisory, and it's only my supar leet obs that have prevented me getting more TS10s on my license. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.
