 |
|
Hey BCF,
I am Danny and even though I have been surfing this form for over a year now this is actually my first post, and I hope the lovely community can give me some advice.
Recently purchased a Rieju Rs2 50cc 2006 of a gentlemen who had initially bought it for himself but never ended up riding it and it was sat in his garage for about 3 weeks prior to me buying it.
Everything looked fine and it even started up electric start the 3rd time he tried but I notices lots of white smoke but I guess that's usual for these 2 strokes.
Long story short, 50 mile trip back home and tried to get it started using the electric start but it just wont start, you can hear it trying to and everything like the lights works fine but the engine isn't turning over no matter how hard I try (clutch in/ throttle over).
I am obviously presuming that the battery is flat and needs re charging (in the process of doing so) but could it also be a spark plug problem? Where could I get a replacement and does anyone know where the spark plug is in this model?
is the rust on the battery wires a reason for it not starting up?

How do you get the seat up on this model?
Could do with some advice.
Thanks, Dan
ALSO COULD ANYBODY RECOMMEND SOME GOOD OIL FOR THIS BIKE? |

to get the seat up you have to use your key in the pillion seat and there is a bolt that holds the rider seat inside there!
as for starting it shouldnt need the throttle wide open just a bit of choke and flick the starter (you probably flooded the carb)
the batterys on these are small and drain really quick, did you try bumping it?
spark plugs can be bought at any motorcycle shop or halfrouds and they are located on top of the cylinder head

Thanks for the reply, do you own a rieju? What do you mean by flick the starter? And will be replacing the battery and spark plug very soon so will keep you updated. |

Hiya,
I have one of these (2003/53 plate) and have similar issues.
The battery is (as the Nightshaddow says), a pathtically small one and does not hold much of a charge, couple that with the fact that the charging circuit on these is nototiously weak, you have bike which, when ridden on full beam, will run fine and dandy, but does not really charge the battery after the inital drain of starting.
When starting (or attempting to), you'll find that the starter spins and turns over the engine apparnetly fine, but with that drain on the battery is enough to leave little or no charge to fire up the ignition circuit and so will not spark.
If the battery is charged externally (easy enough to do) all appears fine, but after a few starts (especially cold ones), it struggles.
As Turkish sugests, try a bump start and all should be OK (put the lights on dip or off first though, reduce any extra load on the battery and give the best chance of a decent spark)
Best sugestions.....
#1 Fit an external charge socket and plug it in to a trickle charger each night to make sure it is full in the morning (A good inteligent charger will do this with no risk to the battery condition).
#2 Ride with no lights to reduce load on the electrical circuit and to maximise the charge to the battery (Not recommended for safety reasons to you , the rider as this would increase the risk of SMIDSY).
#3 Upgrade the chargeing circuit (Bigger magneto from the 125, bit of a faff as it is not a direct swap).
#4 Accept it and get used to bumping it in the morning.
TBH I have gone for option #4 as I live on a hill and it makes no odds to me rolling down in the morning.
Hope this helps

Thanks for the reply Mike, I actually just left the battery to charge over night and the bike starts first time now but new problem - the rear break pad activated the back lights but the front break leaver doesn't? |

If the headlights or dashboard lights flicker/become dim when hitting the ignition button then its probably battery related
Try bump starting it, if it works then it could be your starter motor or your battery
If bump start doesn't work, then check for a spark.
And when u do attempt to start it does it make any loud squeaking noises? If so your starter motor may need replacing.
Or.. like someone else said from you opening your throttle while the bikes off it may be flooded which may explain the smoke (excess fuel burning off) and if this is the case then you need to get rid of that excess fuel.
And 2 strokes do smoke, but normally that smoke clears up after it's warmed up.
Good luck resolving your problem.
