Like clockwork, as my CBF125 endures its first spring it suffers from its first bout of kangaroo hopping - during a sunny bank holiday ride naturally, fortunately however, on the last mile riding back home!

Vid of it happening;

I turned the bike off for a few minutes to let it cool down before I made the last mile, noticed a slight drop in power but it didn't kangaroo home.

This will be the 4th repair under warranty on my half year old 2000 mile CBF125! I hope the dealers will be happy to see me, again.

A mates CBF did the same thing last year, pump replaced under warranty. 10 months later and the "new" pump is doing the same thing. He's just inside the 2 year warrenty, so got it done.

But how can it keep happening?! The dealer seemed to imply it was a known issue, so how can they replace a fecked pump with another that suffers the same issue. Not cool.

The unsourced anecdote goes that it's down to an anti-rust coating in the tank that should have been flushed out by dealers, but generally wasn't.

No idea how true that is, but Honda resolutely haven't done a general recall on the pumps. If it's true, and the coating is sitting as a layer of evil sludge at the bottom of the tank, it could clog up pumps indefinitely.

Either way, they really need to sort this out. There's only so long that they can stonewall on it before even the lazy twunts in the biking press stop stroking off about legendary Honda reliability.

I'm an idiot, but none of it makes any sense to me. If it was sludge in tank, why not flush it at the first service, or definitely at the first pump replacement. Maybe they did, just not well enough.

I wonder if journo's are really that fussed. Also, they want to test the latest and greatest, would they be concerned over upsetting Honda.

I looked at the new cb500 and thought that's a nice step up from my 125, something to work towards. But my mate doesn't want to buy a Honda ever again. And I have to say I'm not too impressed. The dealer hasn't been great either, not very proactive and never returning calls or emails.

Had the same thing on the hottest day last year. Phoned the dealer, they'd already had 3 other reports of the same problem that day.

I'd been riding out on country lanes and the bike was fine, it was when I came into town and slowed and airflow was reduced that the kangarooing started.

Had a similar thing happen to me before on the CG only happened the once though, the cause I believe was some dirt/rust in the tank blocking the reserve fuel pipe. As it only happened when I went onto reserve and was low on fuel.

After doing some riding on reserve the problem has completely gone.

To be honest, the tank lining story sounds like a lot of bollocks, I present it strictly as gossip.

The consistent story is that they kangaroo in hot weather, which sounds more like a vapour lock problem than pump clogging per se.

Ask the Dealer for a loaner bike until the repair as you need a reliable bike for work, and clearly what they have provided (CBF) isn't decent enough.

Then rag the loaner bike.

Update, got the CBF back, with a new fuel pump.

My bike was fixed sooner than I'd thought, I had the AA recover the bike to the dealer via Honda care, then two days later, the dealer rang and told me the bike's fuel pump has been replaced and is ready to pickup.

I don't know how the 28th got in the mix, possibly a misunderstanding over the phone. But, whatever...

The weather has been rubbish since I had the bike back so I haven't had the chance to test the bike out in warm weather, was fine on the way back home though.

So, what else can I look forward to on the CBF?

This is caused by the fuel pump- it's either faulty or the stuff they line the tanks with when shipping them is clogging it up- get it fixed under warranty, if the warranty is gone they will sometimes fix it as a goodwill gesture since it happens to like 50% of CBF125's.

It's really bad tbh, especially since so many learners use CBF's, happened to me when I was on L's, has the potential to be really really dangerous.

What the hell happened to Honda??? I saw a 61 plate CBR looking VERY weathered at the bike meet at the weekend. This problem has been known about for years. There is even a facebook group about it.

Sort it out Honda.

also under consumer law, even if the warranty has ran out and the pump plays up again, then its class as a warranty job still.

The replacemnt pump that was fitted is also subjected to a warranty in its on right.

Correct me if i'm wrong but i'm sure that is the case. Watching Dom Littlewood on the BBC has helped

Dealer told me that the older models were sold with a 30psi fuel pump. Now they come with a 50psi version that fixes it! Haven't had a hot spell in which to test it yet though!

i have also been reading that cleaning out the injector helps as well.

Generally the crap from the tank doesn't help, and the need for a filter is advisable as there isn't one fitted?!

Burning through its oil between the 2,500 mile oil change intervals, and seizing.

Epic corrosion if you take a trip to the seaside.

Still no recalls on the CBF125. Way to piss away your reputation, Honda.

Dont do this. Because then the parts guy will borrow it one evening to get home from work after his bandit breaks down for the 1895859173571257893457189345th time, and this will happen to him;

https://i1148.photobucket.com/albums/o574/_Iain_/248B55D2-73CE-4699-A79E-8E709B8AA6D5-3456-0000046B4BFA9F26_zps6e978385.jpg

And then he'll have to pay to fix it AND walk home, and he'll be all depressed and shit. Sad

Ah alas only do it to main dealers that mess you about!

Rust!

Pigeons 2 year old chinese bike looked better than my 7 month old CBF, go figure. Fully serviced, ACF'd etc. etc. Going to deposit it at the dealers next week.

Mine has run faultlessly, apart from that.
