I'm currently doing an engine swap proving difficult with no paddock stand and since the stand is attached to the engine it's being difficult any ideas for a makeshift stand? I've got plenty of planks of wood and bricks and buckets need something fairly stable for me to wriggle an engine into the frame with our it moving to much can't think it's a bit late for my brain BCF I'm calling you for help

I put a scaffold tube under the frame before the pillion foot pegs. Put a stack of concrete blocks either side of the bike (Equal Heights), Then lift the bike and put the ends of the scaffold tube on the stacks of blocks. It is really sturdy and was the method i used when taking the engine out my Ninja. Sounds Bodge but does the job Thumbs Up

You could also use slings to suspend the bike from a rafter or similar.

Make the said stand to hold the bike safe when not doing the engine fitting.....get a couple of mates over to help when your removing or installing the engine! That's what I do anyhow and I've got front and rear stands and a bike lift. Nothing beats extra hands and eyes when it comes to heavy lifting and lining up engine mounts and getting bolts in at the same time! Usually costs a couple of beers and some snacks Wink

Put the footpegs on upside down.

Stick an axle stand under one. Push the bike over onto it, put the other stand under the other.

Support whichever end drops down with a car jack.

Here's my VFR750 on google earth putting my money where my mouth is:

Lay the engine on its side (on towels, cushions or whatever. Lower the rolling chassis over the engine. Bolt up some of the mounts and then lift the lot back up.

Used this method on a GS1000 chop and it can be done with just one pair of hands Smile

Any Real Reason on why to put them upside down Question

Whenever I have to lift up the CG (Ok it is light) I just shove one under the right or where it would go and then the other by the sidestand. Push the bike to the right and push the other jack under the footrest after lifting up sidestand with my foot.

Never had any problems doing it that way.

Front pegs are hinged to allow them to scrape on the ground and not upset the bike. Smaller bikes only have a solid bar running through so no need to turn.

When I had to lift my bandit the other day we used 2 Axle stands under the main bike frame. Pulled the weight over onto the side stand to get the first under then pushed it over onto the other side to lift up the stand side to put the second 1 under. Fairly easy to do with 1 extra pair of hands

I've never had anyone help me lift bikes onto bricks, axle stands, paddock stands or trolley jacks. I have always managed on my own.

I'm a bit of a show off though. Cool
