Well I got my sv650, and I'm out to do a service on it, except I haven't got the Suzuki special tool to remove the oil filter, is there any other way to do this? Other than strap wrench/pump pliers.

Also found these in the Suzuki tool section in my bike, what are they and what are the for????????

They are internal circlip / retaining ring pliers. And are for the removal and installation of internal circlips / retaining rings

Circlip and circlip pliers. Keep hold of the pliers they are handy.

If the alloy disc is a bike part, I expect it's from inside the forks going by the diameter and finish.

EDIT: Can't find anything on the parts list that looks like that disc in the forks, nor a circlip like that.

wasn't a standard item in my kit, probably a previous owner tool that he had tucked away in bike and now wonders where the hell he has put his circlip pliers! Rolling Eyes

Suzuki DR350 front sprockets are held on with a circlip like that, no bolts at all.

The DR350 front sprocket is held on with an external circlip. Clutchy's circlip is an internal one.

Circlip and metal disc is a removable baffle for a twin port blue flame can, presumably there is or was one on the bike and previous owner kept them on the bike in case of a tug.

You should be able to get the oil filter off easy if it was oiled around the seal before it was put on. Air filter is a 2 minute job and is worth doing. Spark plugs.. Rear takes 10 minutes. It's the front that is the bastard. Have to either remove front fairing or prop radiator away from brackets.

Any questions on servicing it just give us a pm

On the oil filter - hammer a screw driver through it (drain pan underneath of course, as you would anyway) and turn it with that.

All serviced and sorted now, yeah front spark plug was horrible to get out, not just because of clearance but it looked as if no one has done the front one for ages (posted pics etc in what have you done to your bike today thread) was rusty as fuck.

Cleaned up the old oil filter to remove any oil around it, put on some very grippy gloves and twisted it off by hand, even after 5 turns it wasn't leaking oil so used the same method to do it back up, I'm sure it will be fine. Laughing

Will do Thumbs Up

Also while we are here...

When I twist the throttle all the way back it stays on, or is very slow to return, now I've traced the cable back into the bodies? and it all looks swell, not snagged on anything, however it has after market heated grips which could be the culprit, what do you think? Is this a common problem? Embarassed

On a side note, I know its dangerous but I'm not in a massive rush to get it fixed as I rekon it could be where the bike has been sat for half a year but will it fail an MOT on this?

The cable may be stretched or it could be the aftermarket heated grips.

Betting on grips though.

Can't believe the state of your front spark!

Yeah it'll fail for sure.

Odds-on it's either the grips rubbing on the bar-end or throttle tube gummed up with road dirt. Loosen the housing bolts to allow the tube to slide off slightly, if it becomes loose it's the grips rubbing, if not it needs cleaning out. De-gunge the tube and the bar and re-assemble dry - don't apply lube or wd40 etc or they will gum up again.

5 minutes work Smile

The rear came out like new, probably just a case of the front putting up a fight and the previous owners thinking meh ill leave it.

Cheers Pete will have a crack at it.
