well I took my insurance out with Bennetts on my 125 as a learner having passed my CBT and MOD1, I have now passed my MOD2 so thought I had better inform them and you never know maybe even get a little refund as I am now qualified to ride........

yeh right for being honest and telling them I now find that I have a £30.00 fee for a change in insurance details and documents, told the chap I wasn't prepared to pay extra for passing my test only to be told pay up within 7 days or we will cancel your insurance......

what a con and a rip off, financial ombudsman here we come I think....

Yeah bust of luck with the Ombudsmen. Read the T&C's. Admin fees are nothing new.

Call them back and tell them you were joking and failed really and admit that you're schizophrenic and apologise for the inconvenience

Its standard procedure for companies to charge for admin duty. They have to pay for the bananas and peanuts they feed their computer monkeys who check the box when you change your details.

Welcome to the world of being a growd up.

As for the ombudsman. Good luck. Its in the small print that they charge a fee for any changes to policy and you agreed to that small print when you took out the contract of insurance.

Pay up and get over it.

financial ombudsman (lady) was very helpful, drafted a letter of complaint with me over the phone, said that it was probably the brokers (Bennetts) that are sticking the charge on and not Aviva, she agreed that clicking a mouse to change the fact that I have passed my test really doesn't warrant a £30 charge especially as they are not sending out the paper work but have emailed it through to me to print off myself ...... costing me yet more money..... complaints procedure should take no more than 8 weeks, so watch this space. Thumbs Up

Ask for a detailed breakdown of how the £30 'admin charge' is made up.

Bennets have 8 weeks to respond.
If its not resolved (deadlock) then you can take it to the FCA or FPA as they are now called.
If It goes there it will cost bennetts £750.

I guess you missed the bit in the paperwork they send out stating that they "CAN" charge £30 on renewal..... Laughing

Just remember that Ebike let a case go to FOS a couple of years back of under a quid.... And won.

to be honest I didn't see it as a renewal, more a case of letting them know I have now passed my test and no longer classed as a learner, two minutes and a click of a button wahey £30 please Shocked

paid for my policy in full and not on instalments, bikes on eBay so will hopefully be sold by this time next week so wont need the policy any more, will I have to pay to cancel the policy? or will they give me a refund for the 8 months that I haven't yet used Twisted Evil

You know this reminds me a bit of banks, I can't remember what happened. But somebody complained because bank charges have to be reasonable and proportionate to the cost of whatever it was.

So £25 fees for telling you were overdrawn by a letter was deemed unreasonable or something and the banks never bought it to court. Bank charges still existed but they cut them a bit.

Can't the same argument be made in regards to this?

The funny thing is that in any reasonable sense bank charges were fairer than insurance charges.

Going overdrawn when you don't have the facility in place is an obvious breach and isn't that hard to avoid unless you're running on the pocket money principle.

I've never heard of a bank charge for changing your address, but apparently in insurance land that's a Real Thing (TM), even if your risk doesn't change.

You fucked up...
https://rogerborg.dnsd.me/you-fucked-up-you-trusted-us.jpg
...you trusted them.

Well, despite the fact that you went with the cheapest quote and didn't read the contract that you were agreeing to... er... good on you for sticking to your guns, even if only to stitch them up with the cost of an Ombudsman case. Thumbs Up

and the result is........ no charge, had a call from Bennetts today, and they have agreed that as no actual paper work has changed and there is no change to the policy premium that the admin fee is not in proportion to the work carried out and so the fee has been wavered.

so it was worth a phone call to the ombudsman and a letter happy bunny Thumbs Up

Result! A small win against the asshole insurance companies. I phone up my old insurer with false details and mental claims just to waste their time, because by their maths, I've cost them hundreds! And to call them cocks.

Nice one, it's just a pity they weren't daft enough to let it go to a written referral. Very Happy
