Thanks for all the replies boys and girls and thats exactly what i was hoping to hear. i know it seemed like a silly question, but the only bike ive had is my 07 CBR 125 which has only done about 8k, so im sure you can understand why im asking. Lol from what you guys have said i think i'll definitely be at least taking a look at it and keeping an eye out for the obvious bits and pieces as it is going for a good price imo and looks fairly tidy from the pics as well. .....and in reply to you Troy, its going for about £1300.....but obviously i'll see if i can get a bit knocked off that as well depending. As others have said, Hornets are pretty reliable bikes with bulletproof engines (as long as they're maintained, or course ). If you do buy it then get yourself on the Hornet's Nest forum - some very knowledgeable people on there plus it's a good source of bits and pieces. |

I dont get the whole stigma with mileage. Imo mileage means nothing, but then i dont give a lot of weight to service history either.
Id rather judge the bike on its actual condition, and owner. If they know what they are talking about and are genuinely enthusiastic about bikes, im far more inclined to trust what they tell me. BUT, you must learn the difference between enthusiasm and bullshit!!
My Thundercat was on 43k when i bought it and 52k when i sold it, and i can honestly say without doubt it was FAR better than any of the 15-20k bikes i looked at when buying.
My current GSXR is about 42k miles, and mechanically perfect. Yes i had to replace a few bearings/bushes/seals when i got it, but that was factored in to the deal.
If its a good bike, at a good price, go for it! ____________________ Current: 99 Yamaha Thuundercat

The shock will be completely devoid of any damping by then and you will pogo everywhere. They are non rebuilable so if its a going to be a keeper, budget for a new one. Other than that, should be solid. ____________________ Triumph Daytona 675 track bike + girlfriend's Honda Hornet 600

I've no idea if my shock is the original or not, suspension feels absolutely fine though and it is a stock shock, either i can expect it to go tits up very soon or it's been replaced previously by the sounds of it |
What are you comparing it against? Mine is at 27,000 miles, pretty sure the stock is original. Doesn't feel particularly comfortable, but I've nothing to compare it with, so can't say if it's gone or not. |
Hornet shocks, which are even less sophisticated than CBR600F ones of the same vintage, lose any semblance of damping by 10k. After that they will just pogo up and down. They are next to the exhaust, so they get cooked, and cannot be rebuilt.
Annoyingly, not a great deal of other shocks will fit, unlike the CBR shocks which can be swapped out for loads of different ones. ____________________ Triumph Daytona 675 track bike + girlfriend's Honda Hornet 600
