I am thinking of running NOX on a methanol fueled carbed bike. What do I need to know?

Perhaps worth contacting wizards of nos themselves & seeing what they've got to say about it all?

If there's one thing that Trevor is good for - it's saying stuff about it all. Be sure to ask him about the yank stuff - that's gotta be good for an hour's ear-bending.

Clever guy but will deaden your brain trying make you understand just how clever.

That stuff is fooking lethal but difficult to get going sometimes.

Had the bright idea a good few years back to fill a Zippo with it but the spark wasn't hot enough so has to add petrol to it. Nice big green/grey flames. Set the cotton underneath on fire in the end!

Can imagine a bike running it would be mental

What CC? if it's less than a 500 you might struggle to get small enough jets, but I reckon the best thing to do is contact Wizards of NOS or whomever they are...

I had a similar idea to convert a chainsaw engine a while back, but I couldn't find a small enough jet to do the work.

Oh, and KNOW where your fire extinguishers are, and KNOW what a fire 'without flames' looks like.

Will it work well through a wide open bellmouth or would it be better having some sort of airbox?

Or of course, forced induction.

Miff on ZZR-International has a ZZR 600 E running Nitrous - ram air is basically a poor mans Turbo, that count as forced induction?

Worth noting he has a custom CNC lock-up clutch in the works as the stock one slips like mad under the force of the nitrous

On that CR, I assume you're running close to hydraulic locking the engine as it is. Add in another shot of methanol to go with the gas and you're going to have a lot of fluid in the cylinder.

*Note for children. Methanol has a very high octane rating, but a very low energy density. This means that it is very good as resisting knock and can run at a high compression ratio, but you need to squirt in a lot more of it. This mean hydraulic lock is a worry, because you squirt a lot of fluid into a much smaller combustion chamber.

We over jet with methanol to keep the motor from cooking a piston, running dope rich does not have the same consequences as petrol so it will not get boggy. This bike has a 800 jet and I imagine it will do about 4 mpg.

Methanol stoichometric ratio is 6.4:1 compared to 14.7:1 for petrol. Burt munro reportedly melted a few engines one year because he didn't understand this.

15:1 is a helluva CR to be adding nitrous though. you got a bronze skull in that puppy?

You think it could blow the head off Pete? I will build provision into the frame and engine plates to clamp it on.
I am used to running on dope, it is NO2 that I am clueless with!

Main thing to remember is that upping the oxygen content increases the rate of burn a lot, effectively advancing the timing. So not only do you get a much bigger bang, it also comes in too early. Cylinder pressures skyrocket which is why you don't really want it activated until you're well up the rev range and with almost full throttle (because elevating the cylinder pressures at low revs increases the duration of that huge strain on the mechanical components) There's little point applying nitrous if the throttle is part-open - you might as well just use more throttle and save the gas for when there's no more throttle to add.

Can't help you at all with using it alongside dope Wali. What little I know is pretty-much contained above.

Skulls are fitted to stop the ally of the head melting around the valve seats, and since the seats are formed into the skull, there's no chance of a seat falling out.

Is the engine up to it?

They blow up for a hobby in the state of tune speedway riders run them in, so you have to ask yourself if it can take much more.

Having said that, you aren't limited to non exotic materials like speedway is, so I guess you could chuck some titanium in there.
