 |
|
hi, im new to this site but not to bikes, i have just bought a kmx125 1988 model for fairly cheap off a friend, it starts no bother and rides fairly well, when i bought it didnt think it was up to much being the smallest crosser ive owned lol, ive played with the carb and got it a little faster, but noticed after a good ride out lastnight the power doesnt come in properly untill it hits 9000revs but seems to be hardly any power in 5th gear and will just cruise in 6th, i have removed the kips cover and can push it with my thumb in and out so i would rule out seizure, ive been told they can be adjusted but dont know nothing about the kip system, any help would be greatly appreciated, i think it will be a very niipy bike if i can get the powervalve coming in sooner
thanks |

don't think the KIPS valve can be adjusted.
The valve just opens at a certain engine speed. around 7k.
if its lacking power then try the usual stuff, clean air filter, new spark plug, decoke exhaust, new exhaust gasket & check exhaust system for leaks/holes, check the carb mixture, check reed valves for cracks, check inlet manifold for air leaks, check float level, repack silencer.
finally if that routine stuff doesn't work then do a compression test to asses the condition of the piston/rings and bore. Poor mid-range power can be leaking piston rings. ____________________ 1988 Kawasaki KMX 200

thanks for all the replys well today i have stripped the carb down and cleaned it, checked and cleaned the reeds(no bits missing or cracked), removed the filter all together because it is a mess, and adjusted the card again, its running even better but still the same problem, i have also had the exhaust off and both kips seem to open as they should, but the exhaust seal might as well be none existent and also it sound like its got piston slap(knocking from the top end) so would say the rings are worn, but would this really affect the kips working properly like i say it runs fine apart from the kips
thanks again |

me again and im slightly confussed, i have took the exhaust off again to double check both kips are opening and try a bit of exhaust assembly paste on just to try a better seal, both kips are defo opening, then was going to put it back together but i put my fingers in the exhaust bore with the piston at the bottom and can wiggle the piston about, obviously needs a new set, then brought the piston further up so i could inspect the rings and found the top one to be missing lol i think ive found my problem but should the bike still be running?
thanks |
