|
Mine had started to rust after 6 months, admittedly over the winter months but it had been treated with the scottoiler equivalent of ACF 50, supplied by the dealer and advised to use.
Finally took it in last week and the warranty guy advised the following needed replacing, but needed the authorisation from Honda, understandably.
Swing arm
Both Shock Absorbers
Hangers
Gear Shift Linkage
Brake pedal
Engine Covers (peeling apparently).
Exhaust
Just called the dealer now, they advise that Honda have approved all but two items, they won't replace the Swing arm or hangers. Why? Because they don't believe the replacement parts would be of a better quality, therefore they are paying to have the offending parts powder coated by a local professional outfit.
So great that it's all being sorted, but I'm stunned. To do all this, they need my bike for a week. ____________________ Currently: Yamaha DT 125 LC2,Repsol Fireblade, and Bumblebee MSX 125 |

Its good of them that they are honoring their warranty, however it would have worked out more profitable for honda to make the bike from tidy material in the 1st place. I guess they dont make em like they used to. ____________________ I am usually naked when posting to this forum. |

Fair play for them sorting it though rather than fobbing off as "misuse mate" ala BMW. |

Et tu, Honda.
Fair play to them, that's all of their profits and a good chunk more, especially paying someone else to have the swing arm and hangars powder coated.
But then that's also them acknowledging that the stock parts are (to this day) inadequate for use on UK roads.
So, nice try, but I still wouldn't have one. Good luck to the poor saps buying them out of warranty and expecting that legendary Honda quality. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

It's a shame really, because it's being 100% reliable. Nearly 4,500 miles and not a problem. 2 people have used it as a springboard to their full A.
I've been using it the last few days to keep commuting costs down, in that respect it's a little gem. Having said that, I've had two services which if I had done myself or gone to the local garage It would've been a whole different story.
Sadly It's having a service done as it was due, they hinted it was necessary. I can sell it shortly with a large part of it new, some of it better than new! ____________________ Currently: Yamaha DT 125 LC2,Repsol Fireblade, and Bumblebee MSX 125 |

Makes me sad for my CBF. When I was researching bikes most of the criticisms of the CBF125 seemed to be addressed to the earlier models, particularly the pre-2011 no rev counter jobby. Which was a bike that was almost a grand cheaper than the current model. I thought I wouldn't have to worry about crap like this.
I'm pleased that Honda are decent enough to sort it though.

Sadly it's common knowledge, people talk about the fuel pumps etc. Not true ANYMORE. I was talking to the dealer and they confirmed the process change. Flushing the tank and fuel system thoroughly as part of PDI.
It's made in India, to a budget, aside from the Honda mechanicals, I don't think it's much better than the better Chinese bikes. I'm thinking Lexmoto here. I nearly bought a Street when I looked at this, but I followed the 'buy japanese' advice.
As I say, it's a shame, but can't complain about my dealer. They are sorting this on my behalf. ____________________ Currently: Yamaha DT 125 LC2,Repsol Fireblade, and Bumblebee MSX 125 |

AFAIK there are four versions of the CBF125 in the UK, the; M9, MA, MB and MD in chronological order.
The M9 and MA don't have a rev counter and have rubbish tyres, later models; MB & MD have a rev counter and Conti Go tyres.
The M9, MA and MB models were affected by the dodgy fuel pumps, from what I've gather the latter few of the MBs had revised pumps, I'd assume the MD model also has the better pump.
The new MD model had a slight change in appearance; much of the bike is coated black, the fairing decals have been updated and the red CBF has changed to a darker shade. One other notable change is the addition of a belly pan. The MD was released earlier this year so I don't have any reliability information, but I would guess the black coating and belly pan should address some of the CBF125's infamous rust issues, we'll see after the winter
EDIT:
Not sure if an MC model is out there, maybe... (read posts below)

I haven't got my log book yet, but the info I have says mine is a CBF125MD E. ____________________ Bike: CBF125 |

I agree, there's hardly anything on the web about the various CBF125 models.
Much of what I know comes from what I've ridden or owned, which doesn't include the new one. There isn't anything definitive on the web, in summary of what I've loosely pieced together; the M9, MA, MB, MC & MD are listed as CBF125 models in a few places, e.g. parts compatibility lists, but I've yet to actually see an example of an MC, whereas there are plenty of examples of the other models, including the new MD.
My post, albeit with the earlier mistake between MC and MD, is possibly the only "comparison" of the models on the net.
EDIT: To elaborate on the CBF125s I've owned and ridden,
M9 - Hire bike paid for by a third party's insurance company, ridden for a few weeks.
MA - Owned for half a year, had a problem where the engine would cut out on hot days, possibly related to a bad fuel pump but I'll never know since the bike was written off in a SMIDSY (hence the hire bike!). Rusty of course, pretty much in the same places as wotsthestory's machine.
MB - Current bike which I bought new about a year ago, since then; seat lock jammed, exhaust pipe fell off, steering bearings went stiff and the fuel pump played up - all happily fixed under warranty. There were rust issues too but not as bad as my last CBF because from that I learnt what needs the most care! |
