Yes, the first picture is the axle nut.
Second is the Spindle/axle bolt.
I think some people just use the rear brake, whilst undoing the axle nut, others put a wrench on both sides, cant hurt to do both if you can balance
I find sitting on the bike backwards helps steady it while doing it, but my piddly 125 would go flying if I didn't.
Point of slight concern though, and maybe someone more knowledgeable than myself can answer this...
...but it seems quite troubling that his axle nut has no split pin or self locking threads? Do the Chinese not deem this important? :S ____________________ The above post is most likely nonsensical.

If there was a cotter/split pin, you would see it, also if it was missing, there should be a small hole through the axle itself in front of the nut, yours only appears to have 1-2mm sticking out in front of the nut, so not possible.
If it was a self locking nut it should look like this...
https://www.turnbolt.co.za/assets/images/Self_Locking.jpg
see those blades? again they would be visible even when fully tightened if yours had them.
In theory if correctly torqued/tightened It shouldn't come loose (in theory) but I guess safety wasn't the top priority on the Chinese Engineers list.
I would take everything I say with a pinch of salt as I'm still relatively new to all this Wrench Monkey business, but when you do get it loose, I would make sure its done up nice n tight... ____________________ The above post is most likely nonsensical.

Please stop giving ridiculous advice.
Ask yourself some questions:
1) Why would holding the brake on do anything to a spindle that sits inside bearings?
2) Why would it matter which side of a Spindle/Nut combination that you hold still, and which one you turn
3) Look at more bikes than just your own, then ask yourself "is a split pin / R clip fitted to every jap bike's wheel spindles?"
To the OP, hold one side still, you can do this by wedging the spanner/ratchet/breaker bar against something so it cant move, then put a long bar on the other side, then man up and undo it. ____________________ Current: Suzuki RG 125 Gamma, Honda H100, Triumph Tiger 800XC, Suzuki SV650 (minitwin) |

In the picture showing the nut that Tim seems to think isn't a self-locking nut, it looks as though the chain's split link is installed incorrectly.

The picture isn't too clear, but the link appears to have been fitted the wrong way around. ____________________ A good loser will always be a loser. |
