Yes the older japanese made ones are a bit quicker, i think the carbs were changed for emmissions laws or something when they moved to brazil. ____________________ >RidingSkills<->Tech Tips<->MyBikes< |

Hi
Don't think the CG185 was ever imported to the UK. There was the XL185 which used basically the same engine as the CB125S, but that would be 20+ years old. The CB is an OHC engine while the CG is a pushrod engine so I very much doubt the barrels can be interchanged.
Skimming the head is normally done to make it flat again, but otherewise to increase the compression ratio.
Gas flowing is cleaning up and reshaping the ports to flow better.
Both could be done to the CG.
At the end of the day the CG is not going to produce large amounts of power or a high top speed. The CB125S, its sportier brother, would barely do over 70.
All the best

I think i may know what you mean. The manifold where the carb meets up with the engine is probably the wrong size. This is often a technique used by companies to restrict bikes. You can tell if there are completely clean bits on either of the connecting pieces of metal. If there is simply draw the line of it on the carb and file it down. This might be why the other carb makes the bike faster, or not BUT for gods sake if you do file down the manifold remember to remove and clean ALL of the swarf and filings, if those get into your piston they will grind along the cylinder walls and cause a loss of compression ____________________ Will work for petrol
