you need a carb from a very early 1970's model.
it is bigger and these old one apparently do 80mph, you also need the exhaust to go that fast but trust me the carb works!

Yes the older japanese made ones are a bit quicker, i think the carbs were changed for emmissions laws or something when they moved to brazil.

Hi

Really doubt you will get 80 out of one. That is quicker than the CB125S, the sportier ohc engined Honda single from the 1970s.

All the best

That would be the bigger carb off of the CG185. If you do the big bore and fit the carb 80ish is possible. As far as I know it uses the same exhaust, at least the big H don't list a different one.

Rag it to the max, that makes it fast.. I got 62 mph up a slight hill on an SR125 by giving it some. Rebuild the engine once a year, give it propper oil.. itll be fast enough for a learner..

how big is the big bore 'cos +1mm doesn't make any difference to a CG. where do you find a CG185 and how old are they?
what is skimming the head or gas flow(ing) the head by the way? is this possible for a CG?

You could buy a mph to kph convertor, then it will do 80 easily.

Hi

Don't think the CG185 was ever imported to the UK. There was the XL185 which used basically the same engine as the CB125S, but that would be 20+ years old. The CB is an OHC engine while the CG is a pushrod engine so I very much doubt the barrels can be interchanged.

Skimming the head is normally done to make it flat again, but otherewise to increase the compression ratio.

Gas flowing is cleaning up and reshaping the ports to flow better.

Both could be done to the CG.

At the end of the day the CG is not going to produce large amounts of power or a high top speed. The CB125S, its sportier brother, would barely do over 70.

All the best

Keith

Honda built a CG185. I think it used the same piston as the XL.

I have had a quick Google and can find no mention of it anywhere. There is also nothing in the David Silver Spares catalogue.

There is the CD185 but that was a twin.

All the best

I think we're flogging a dead horse here
the XL185 has an OHC, the cg is a pushrod
sodding about with a cg basic spec will mean upgrading the brakes and carbs too
and it'll make it less competitive to insure
for only 60cc more? I'd rather go buy a Benley 200 (are they still made new in the far east, perhaps a bit damply now?) or a 250cc if I was feeling rich
still if there's a working example of an improved cg out there, I'd like to know about it

I think i may know what you mean. The manifold where the carb meets up with the engine is probably the wrong size. This is often a technique used by companies to restrict bikes. You can tell if there are completely clean bits on either of the connecting pieces of metal. If there is simply draw the line of it on the carb and file it down. This might be why the other carb makes the bike faster, or not BUT for gods sake if you do file down the manifold remember to remove and clean ALL of the swarf and filings, if those get into your piston they will grind along the cylinder walls and cause a loss of compression Very Happy
