Oh, hello.
I got one of the 9V ones last year.
Running it directly off of the electrics (~14.5V with the engine running) = OW MY NIPPLES.
So I just this weekend wired in that exact converter (a couple of quid from China) and...
CAPACISPLODE!
Nope, fail. Either I got a bad one, or the vest is drawing way over 3A. The inside is a solid blob of resin with components embedded so I can't see what else is in there, but what exploded looked like a capacitor.
It won't cost you much to find out, but duck and cover before you power it up. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

They will have probably aimed for about 5A at the 9v.
45W seems about right for the initial warm up.
So running that same resistance circuit at 14.4V gives you 8A.
:edit: looking at specs for other heated items of clothing, they do seem to aim for about 50W from a vest and about 80W for a jacket. ____________________ Current Bikes:Honda 929RR Fireblade, Honda CD200 Benly (Project), Stomp Z2 140

Right, i'll buy one of Maplin's vests, and then when I think that my nipples are ready, buy some of China's finest, which I will wire into a cigarette lighter plug, to fit into my socket |
