Especially in the darker mornings and evenings, where the potential for SMIDSY is increased, what is the collective opinions on Helmet cams?
Was thinking of getting one as a pre-santa treat for myself, but not sure if it is worth it.
I have looked on E-Bay and can pick up a nice little unit for about £50, 1080p, Li Ion rechargable from USB, 32GB SD card (or little one), several hours of recording.
In the event of accident, is any footage obtained from these admissable as effectively, you are recording pople without their permission?
Anyone got an personal experience of using them and either getting results in the event of an off, or told that they can not use the footage?
Cheers

Convictions have been secured with the footage so there shouldn't be an issue of using one.
Equally this video wasn't good enough and the driver wasn't charged due to "lack of evidence" due to some legal loophole because he wasn't asked if he wanted a solicitor when he was questioned so his admission wasn't worth shit in court.
I've got one and It's great. Nice to have an independent witness and they are admissible in court just as CCTV etc is. I've never been to court but the police were particularly interested in the footage of one of their cars nearly knocking me off my bicycle Her inspector was not impressed, I can tell you that.... |

All I'll note is that £50 may be exactly the exact wrong price point. Not enough for a good bullet camera, more than you have to pay for a budget one. I'd suggest having a look at Techmoan, he covers loads of cameras in some depth. £50 might get you the recommended SJ1000, but helmet mounting it would be problematical. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

Cheers guys,
Was looking at a bullet cam rather than the big ones, so might just increase my budget and look for one of those.
Thanks again

I've been using the new(ish) Dogcam Bullet HD 2 on my daily commute for the last couple of months and I'm really impressed. It's expensive at a couple of hundred notes, but does 1080p, works well at night and is small and relatively inconspicuous on my lid.
I'll do a little review when I get the chance and throw up some screenshots and a bit of cut down vid. ____________________ 2016 CBF1000F - Commuter heaven | 1994 CBR600FR - Awaiting defibrillation |
