I recently parked my bike up, but upon parking I lost my balance and rolled over onto it's right side. Besides cracking a pannier box, there was no more damage.

However I went to start it today after it being parked for 3 days and it won't start. Key turns, dash and lights comeon, but nothing. Kill switch on, still nothing.

Ideas?

Is it in gear?
Is it in gear with sidestand down?
Have you tried WD40 in the kill switch?

There will have been a tilt sensor that'd killed the electronics. You need to do a google and check this is ok/reset.

Have you tried jumping it from another 12v battery/power pack.
You might have damaged the battery in the fall. Plus this time of year with it being cold doesn't do a so-so battery any favours.

I'd check battery first.

Please post progress/fix as I'd be interested.

HTH Thumbs Up

Did you ride it after you dropped it, or is this the first attempt to start it after the fall? Just trying to work out if it's connected to dropping it or not.

EDIT: If it's the tilt sensor try disconnecting the battery for a few minutes and reconnecting. See if that helps.

Does it click or anything when you press the starter button? apparently there is a rollover cut out switch some where, I have a pan myself but not had it long so not that familiar with it yet, also I understand that the alternators can seize up which stops the engine turning.

I was going to suggest this, I seem to remember a recall or something because extreme cornering could cause the bike to cut up.

Thanks to you all. Solution found to be WD40 to the kill switch. The cold weather and water had no different got to it as it started shortly after that.

Thanks for all your help.

Just in case, for the future. If you drop the bike with ignition on, once back upright you need to turn off the ignition and turn it back on to reset the tilt switch or it will just turn over and not start.

They can go faulty and are a pain in the arse to change, behind the fairing on the offside, screwed to the fairing subframe just above where the mirror is.

I had an ST1100 in recently that was suffering from charging problems while riding the bike.

Swapped the reg/rec for a working used item, still the same. After digging deeper, it turned out the alternator had a crack in the casing!

Was only putting out enough power to run the engine and lights, but once the heated grips were on, it would discharge the battery.

Looks like a common problem, been as there are a few used parts on ebay with cracks in the cases!

Posting for future reference Thumbs Up

They are about £500 from honda. you can get them recon but not if the cases are cracked.
ACF50 sprayed on when it's cold should help it to not rust and crack. It is mostly caused by bikes left for periods unused, the magnets rust, expand and cause the cracking.

I left my pan for a few days. Everything was working fine when I left it I went to the garage to warm her up before doing an oil change and nothing happened when I pushed the starter. Turned out the alternator had seized while it was parked up. Changing it turned out to be a pig of a job cos I didn't know the gear plate is meant to stay in the engine. If I knew that, it would have been quite simple.

I've done 25000 in led than two years on it and that's the first thing that's failed on it for me. Considering its 13 years old I don't think it's too bad!

Mine doesn't get a chance to seize, apart from the acf50 i cover it in, I do 60k a year on them.
I find that if you remove the swing arm, tank and all associated bits it is a piece of cake to change.
Done a couple on other peoples bikes.
