hi guys,
I am alittle confused as to what i can ride at 19 years old. I am currently riding a 125. I am probably going in for a2 licence next year about may or something. what is the max cc i can get, as i use the motorway daily a 125 is not really suitable for it. I have checked the internet it is saying 35kW now to sure what that is.

Take a look at these:
https://www.gov.uk/ride-motorcycle-moped
https://www.gov.uk/ride-motorcycle-moped/bike-categories-ages-and-licence-requirements
https://assets.dft.gov.uk/dsa/dsa-routes-to-your-motorcycle-licence.pdf

Basically if you obtain your A2 license you have to abide by these regulations: motorbikes up to 35 kW/46.6bhp (and a power-to-weight ratio not more than 0.2 kW per kg), bike mustn't be derived from vehicle more than twice its power (so any bike more than 93.2bhp can not be restricted down to 46.6bhp on the A2 license).

Also take a look at this, it's a list of bikes you can ride on the A2 license (doesn't say if it needs restricting or not, though): https://www.bikechatforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=281627

So 46.6bhp is the max on a A2 licence?

Yeah. A bike with more can be restricted down to it as long as it's not more than 93.2bhp to start with and remember the kW-kg ratio also has to fit in the 0.2 limit.

35kW. There are several variants of "horsepower", and little point in trying to be too precise about it.

The significant thing is that the bike can't have been restricted down from one that claimed more than 70kW (urgh, about 93.872 mechanical brake horsepower Wink).

Sadly, that rules out bikes like the Hornet and Fazer which claimed just a little over. And no, not the GSX-R600 either, despite what MCN say. Rolling Eyes

If a bike is not on the DSA list of bikes approved for restricting down and using to sit an A2 test, then it might become an issue.

Or it might not. Plenty of people ride bikes where the restrictors have "fallen out" and get away with it. Having a convincing looking bit of paper saying "Is 35kW honest" will see you right in most situations.
