Hmmm! "Doing a Roger"
Is this a case of Rogering Roger before Roger Rogers you?
...just saying
As to bigger bike. Yes, the Burgman has a lot of plastic. ____________________ ...and the whirlwind is in the thorn trees, it's hard for thee to kick against the pricks...

I actually don't mind the Burgman scooters, they look like they'd be good commuters
Apparently they cost a fortune to service though. |

Since I've never had a big scoot, does this mean I'm a "Roger Dodger" ? ____________________ 09' Versys 650 | 07' FJR1300A |

Ride a 125 scooter as a part time job (pizza delivery). With a huge front screen they do offer great weather protection and I find them better in slipping conditions. They are also easier to ride and great on fuel.
Not sure what a 400 would be like though? Wouldn't the weight/cc compromise the nimbleness and fuel economy? They aren't very stable at high speed turning either..
Each to their own I guess. I'd probably own a very small and light scooter for the harsher weather because they do take a good beating also being automatic I wouldn't have to worry about locking the rear on downshift. But for an every day commuter I can't see a 400cc scooter being any better then a naked 500cc, with a big fuck off screen and muffs/heated grips. Probably weigh a lot less, provide better fuel economy and be easier to maintain/ work on too.
..I may be wrong about the mpg, I could imagine them being claimed to do silly high mpg. But I'm sure I heard 50 odd mpg real world on the newer models so nothing spectacular, not sure what the older models are like? |

So, basically; you've got a rather poor version of an automatic car . |

Changing the rear pads on mine involved removing the exhaust, which snapped a stud, which resulted in me lying on my back for the best part of the weekend trying to drill it out from almost, but not quite, exactly the wrong angle.
I can see why some garages (apocryphally) don't want to touch older scooters. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

It's not quite the same thing as (say) filtering down the Embankment or Holloway Road in what Londoners drolly imagine to be "heavy" traffic. When all four lanes of Roppongi-dori westbound were a car park, my stubby little 100kg 2-stroke scooter and its ilk were invariably the only things still moving through what tiny gaps remained. Looking back I do wonder how I managed to go nearly a decade without being smeared jam-like between two larger vehicles.
Of course, as soon as you get a patch of open road the real bikes are gone, leaving you buzzing along behind at 50mph with your throttle pinned grimly to the stop. But open roads at 5:30pm in the centre of that city are few and far between. |
Point taken, I've had both scooters and big bikes, found the bikes much easier to filter on, could squeeze through anything on my cbr. The SV has become stuck on few occasions when commuting but seeing as my commute is both central London and motorway, big bike is the way forward.
Never found a scooter that has been able to go through a gap that I haven't been able to so based on London commuting (not Japan seeing as this is an english forum ) I still firmly believe big bikes are better. ____________________ Malaguti F12 Phantom-Dead, Suzuki AY50- Dead, NRG power DD LQ, CBR125.
