 |
|
Hi,
I binned my bike a few months ago leading to it snapping, today it fully snapped and it's becoming unbearable. I need a quick bodge fix for this weekend as attracting cops attention is the last thing I want.

I'm open to any bodge advice, I don't mind imaginative ideas.
So far I've thought about wrapping it in wire mesh then using exhaust bandage and putty until I get round to welding it.
Needs to be a quick and cheap fix, I don't care how hideous it looks. |

Whatever you do is going to vibrate loose in short order, as I doubt there's enough meat on the silencer to clamp it firmly.
If I absolutely had to, I'd find a piece of thin metal (in the past I've cut up one of Mrs Borg's old baking trays ), roll it around the pipe, then squeeze it a bit more and shove it inside to make an internal sleeve.
Then go in with the jubilee clip / tape / bandage / silicone / putty / bits of string and chewing gum. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

I was worried about the vibrations, did have a thought about drilling some small holes and sewing it with wire to keep it under tension but thought it's too rusty and it'd just turn to dust when I drill it. Your idea with the internal liner would make sense so I'll see what I can rumble together when the weather's a bit less shit. |

I was wondering what I could use for the internal sleeve and your tin can idea has inspired me. I'll probably copy what you've done but the silencer is tapered so might take some fettling but cheers for that. |

to tin can, I was probably over-thinking it. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.
