Well after treating my woman to a Quite Expensive Royal Python last month (CB12 Bumblebee) and the RUB, heat mat, stat etc so £300's worth its my turn to buy something nice.

Now i don't need either of what i want, but i have wanted both ideas for a while so gonna splash out as i have a bit of spare cash after working my nads off this month and picking up extras.

So do i go with my very First DSLR which i've lusted after for numerous years or a Set of Arrow Cans for my motorbike?

Get the DSLR and a decent Macro lens for snakey pics. Seems to be all the rage on the reptile forums Laughing

I think that a good camera is definitely a wise investment

I've always wanted one. Plus with it being a bit cold still and Blackburn with Darwen Council still throwing salt all over the roads, it might be wise to hold off till better weather.

Been a wet winter so they seem to be throwing excess salt down the past few days. Roads look like beaches Laughing

And yes i really do want to take some nice pictures of my snakeys. Beautiful animals Royal Pythons.

Asda have a sale on Nikons at the moment, might be worth a look.

Yesterday in our local one the D3100 was £187 and the D5100 was £247. Thumbs Up

Didn't know ASDA did cameras. I'm assuming its the big massive ones. As i doubt Blackburn will have um. Might make a trip via Horwich ASDA on the way home from work tomorrow.

bought myself a Canon 600D EOS a few weeks back
Canon was the obvious choice for me as its to be used for Astro photography and has been modified
to remove the standard IR filter and had it replaced by a special Baader one Thumbs Up

I can still use it for normal pictures, I just need to set a custom white balance

i would go nikon all the way.

but i have alterior motives due to having a body with focus motor allowing me ti use older lenses if i so wish, this isnt an otpion with newer entry level cameras

nikon d5100 can be had for around £330 with stock 18-55 lense. or you could go for the newer d3300 which has a few little estra features but its about ona par with the d5100. also dont buy a camera on the basis of pixel count, 16 is about all that is needed with current printing tech unless you are printing it big - i mean really big, like building size

What are you planning on photographing ?

I'd personally go mid range cannon, I wouldn't buy entry level of either

I have a lumix point and click and it has just as many options and takes better photos than the bottom end dslr

Girlfriends got a 5d Mk3 and 2 telephoto lenses, would recommend that buy would cost a fair bit Laughing

i consider my d7100 as mid level, yet its about £800,

it all depends on how much the op want to spend, the reason i suggested the camera i did was the cost was some where on tyhe region of the £300 mark, for that money you will oly get entry level

I've got a D3100, 3 years on and i'm still getting to grips with it Laughing

The kit lens is pretty good ( i reckon) but i have just bought a 35mm prime lens for it, and the difference in image quality is quite startling.

I like the idea of night photography, still shots of cars, motorbikes, landscapes when out on mountain/motorbike. And pictures of our snakes.

If you don't currently have a house/mortgage, it isn't disposable. Save it for a day when you may actually need excessive funds.

Currently got savings sat in the bank for house deposit. We have about £500 a week disposable income after all bills, rent, food etc are paid. We eat well. Even lazy daughter now contributes from her part time job. And suprisingly does more round the house.

Maybe I underestimated her!
