Now I know the obvious will be answer will be just go and take pics. But I need some inspiration to get me going .

Canon 1100D as a few friends use Canon's so I can borrow their Lenses. Need a tripod. Bought the understanding exposure book a while ago so gonna read that. Want to take some nice pictures of my motorbike and Mtb. Going for a night ride later on mountain bike. Any tips for some night landscape shots to get the busy street lights below.

Night shots you need to have a slow shutter speed, it will blur like Fuck without a tripod though. Try finding a ledge to sit the camera on and experiment

You could ask Teff, or search for the thread on photography he posted in. It'll take a while to read.
I learnt a lot from reading a few books, magazines, but mostly my father who worked in commercial photography for over 30 years. He had a critical eye to say the least.

I am not being patronising I promise but one of the most helpful things I ever read when it came to photography was the manual for my camera. I know reading the instructions is a very un-manly thing to do but it explained a lot of the features of the camera and cut out a lot of guess work when I was starting out.

There have been lots of great suggestions so far in this thread for stuff to read so I'll just add that there are thousands of great video tutorials for photography on youtube. I've been having a good laugh at the Digital Rev channel lately but there are plenty of other channels dedicated to photography and entry level DSLR's.
