Not impressive enough to do a paint diagram, but on the way home from work tonight, a car decided it didn't want to go straight ahead and swerved in front of me. I slammed my brakes on, but not quickly enough and ended up going into the side.
Turns out that they are German, in a rental car and didn't understand the road layout. Bike is fine except a bent gear peg, helmet took a bump, and my knee hit the car, the floor and then the bike landed on it.
Bit shook up, and my back and knee are stiff, but sod it, first spill out of the way.
Stool cory bro. |

Germans you say...
Sounds like a case for the ECHR - Breaching your right to safe travel as a motorcyclist or something surely.
What was the end outcome then, translated apologies and exchange of details, or was it just lots shouting and tears. |

Thanks everyone, no insurance claim as just a bent peg for me, and a 6 foot 2 dent in their door, plus I was a bit shocked that I wasn't hurt.
To be fair, if it went to insurance claims then I would lose the 1 years no claims that I am about to earn (lol).
The war was absolutely not mentioned |

Glad to hear your not to badly smashed up OP.
If your not doing a paint diagram perhaps you could at least bump the spill counter: https://www.bikechatforums.com/viewtopic.php?p=3828743
I understand why you don't want to contact your insurance because any such phone call is often comparable to a vicious hangover.
Just a simple renewal usually leaves me with a sapped soul, pitted stomach and dull buzzing brain feeling.
But as others have stated, you must inform, and fill out any mountain of paperwork and/or draw any diagrams they require, if not it will bite you in the arse later. ____________________ Chase my Witch up, Catch my Snitch up.

Umm. Tricky one. Because...

If not, if you're sure that they didn't even get your registration, then you might be better off keeping is hush-hush.
Thing is, right now the hire car owners will be badgering Fritz to provide your details.
It's really up to you to decide based on the circumstances. Initially, you'd be informing your insurer of a minor collision in which you weren't at fault (I'm sure your recollection is that the other party admitted liability), with no injuries and no significant loss or damage.
I'd p.m arry though. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

Hi Roger,
I didn't get theirs, they didnt get mine and I am 99.9% sure they didnt get my number plate. They were adamant that they would rather sort it themselves, and seeing that there was more damage to them than to the bike, I was ok with that.
As far as fault, absolutely their fault, there were witnesses who confirmed that they were going straight ahead, then swerved to go right (and into my path).
Don't have my insurance details with me, so I will proceed tonight if necessary (and at work at the moment, so will PM 'arry later).
Once again, thanks for everyones help, advice and best wishes. |

Probably end-of-story then.

If you didn't get their details, what does that matter?
If I were 99.9% certain that I couldn't be identified I'd probably leave it and not give myself 5 years of insurance hassles. Probably. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.
