A weird question but...

Going to be moveing my cdi units, they are monuted at the moment verticaly with a couple of mm appart... the plan is to mount them horizontaly tapeing them together and giveing them adiquate anti vibe protection..

Question is, will they interfere with each other in any way if they are mounted together? i mean stuff like EMF interferance, or any other i'll effects? should i bother insulateing with tin foil or something like that?

EMF, thats A-level physics time again, cant really remember all that. lol. I would be very surprised if there would be enough interference to cause a problem.

Suck it and see is my advice. Tape them together then try starting the engine.

It shouldn't cause a particular problem even if they did both fire together on most bikes.

Good stuff, well dremeled the back of the cdi off and after picking all off the.. whatever it was sealing it, resoldered all the points inside, tested it out and it worked perfic Very Happy (at least seems to, before it didn't work for more than 10 seconds)

Covered it in sillicone sealant (bathroom stuff), waiting for it to dry.. another question now.. when its wet is it going to conduct electricity? i want to road test it Sad meeeeh...

No bike for 3 days and ive got withdrawal symptoms, is that unhealthy?

Did the silicon smell vaguely of vinegar? If so you are going to have corrosion problems with the Cdi circuitry. Bathroom silicon is usually acetic acid based (thats the vinegar smell) and will attack the copper on the PCBs. Shocked I would start looking for a replacement CDi if I was you. If you need to re-pot electronics again, go to Maplins and get some potting compound or some high voltage putty.

tits... it didn't smell acidic, but i'll be takeing it off now anyway...

I'm actually getting a new cdi, phoned the shop and he knew what it was straight away, theres one been ordered, i thought while i'm waiting for a newun i'd try fixing mine, it was allready broke so nothing to loose...

As an alternative ive got some glue sticks, melted down would they do the job? (seeing as i can't GET to maplins on acocunt of the ded bike...)

Saw your post about the silicone mastic and thought ohshit but Big Pete has covered that one.

How big a hole is it you acutally need to fill up? About the same size as say, a whole pack of araldite?

hot glue should be ok, most DIY stuff melts around 65C IIRC, so the components in your CD1 should cope OK. I think its non corrosive as well but couldnt say for sure. As its only a temporary thing, why not triple wrap it in cling film?

Thanks stinkwheel and pete Thumbs Up

I went with the hot glue option, araldite would probably have been better but dont have any at the mo, but have lots of glue sticks Very Happy then cling film and then electrical tape in abundence... got rid of most if not all of the sillicone sealant, wont be doing that again Embarassed

Its clicking away quite happy now, think i will give it a run arround the block in a little while, i think its gonna be fine though...

Thanks again though, appart from the sealnt i'm quite happy with that, amazeing people just bin cdi's and spend £90 when they can be fixed relatively easyly even by me Shocked
