so the thundercat has been running pretty rough for a little while now. Wouldn't idle unless the screw was set for 3k rpm. I've taken teh carbs apart and cleaned them through with carb cleaner and compressed air. I've reset the idle mixture screws etc. I've also synced the carbs. The engine now seems a lot smoother and idles pretty well.
Possible trouble is that revs hang a little. I'm not sure if it's just me being a little bit paranoid or what but I've uploaded a video. Hanging revs to me mean that it's running pretty lean possibly because of an air leak. I've checked the carb rubbers pretty thoroughly and they seem fine. I've also sprayed some carb cleaner around the area to see if the revs pick up and all seems fine. any ideas, or is this just somemthing that happens on carbed bikes/this bike?

I would go with air leak as well initially. My fireblade is a carb'd 918 and the revs fall very quickly, almost instantly, to idle.

Until two days ago my tzr250 was holding its revs and it turned out to be an air leak due to an old gasket I had disturbed because I had dismantled them for ultrasonic cleaning.
I ended up replacing the suspect carb with one of my spares as it was less hassle and also ensured that both the inlet to carbs and carb to airbox connections were very secure.

Assuming this one I've chosen at random from Youtube is what it should be like, then yours is definitely on the slow side!

Is the twist grip snapping back closed properly? Maybe the cables need oiling something?

Just thinking, you could eliminate the possibility of it being anything in the cables or twist grip by disconnecting the cables from the carb end and manually operating the throttle on the carbs.

If there is enough access that is.

they are new cables so shouldn't need oiling. The cables don't move as free as what they should do. There's too much tension on the cable. Need to wait for it to stretch a little then re-adjust.

yes, I've routed them exactly the same way the old ones came out. It's almost like they are slightly too short though. I've got the adjusters set to minimum and there is no slack in the cable like there should be. I'm hoping it will stretch quite quickly and solve my problem
