Can you filter on the wrong side of traffic islands?

If traffic is completely stationary and there are no pedestrians, are you allowed to go around the right hand side of the island?

I see people doing this all the time. What do plod say?

Yes you can, there is a road I have to go down that motorcycles and bicycles regularly do this on. However, I don't do this as I got a £50 fine once for doing it, I wasn't a serial offender but got caught.

I got a £50 fine and two arsehole coppers who had just done their course on checking over vehicles, going through my bike with a fine tooth comb.

Total waste of time, but if it saves 30 seconds it's worth it right?

You physically can, but you're not allowed to

technically if a car breaks down blocking the one for your direction of traffic you're not allowed to go the wrong side as it's technically a very short stretch of one way

As said, legally no. You MUST keep left.

But, if there is clearly nothing coming, no other vehicles/pedestrians/kittens etc then it won't do any harm.

Just accept that you are doing something wrong and know and accept consequences of getting caught before you do it. Use your judgement.

If it's moving but slow traffic it'll only hold you up for maybe 10-20 seconds waiting to pass to the left of the island. Only would consider it if the traffic is stationary really.

I do it every morning as there is one outside a petrol station down the road from me and it sometimes has diesel on the correct side where lorries swing out and round. 7am though, no 5-0 around to catch me.

Wouldn't do it in front of them though.

Trouble is they a refuges for pedestrians - if a ped walks out between the cars on your original side of the road to the refuge they will then instinctively look left not right before carrying on - kill them and you'll probably do time.

A pal got fined by a camera going the wrong way round a traffic island. He was pulling out from a side turning and traffic was queueing so went the wrong way round the island (to filter). I still do it tho Cool

Only advice I can give is definitely do not go past one at 50 when there is an unmarked traffic copper on the correct side of it. Embarassed
