I'm currently using an old Android phone as a GPS tracker on the bike. The problem is that it isn't very reliable, stops updating its position for no good reason. It's an old phone and a cheap bike, so there's no point getting a proper tracker.

My current setup uses the Spysat app, and uploads the position every two minutes to www.spysat.eu

As far as I can tell, the main problem is that the thing is using GPS to get a fix the whole time. The phone lives in the tail unit next to a tower block most of the time, so it doesn't get a very good look at the sky. There is no option in this app to get a vague location off cell towers.

Is anyone else doing a similar thing, and have you found a better app? I want to be able to go to a web page and see where my bike is, to the best accuracy possible.

I used to use 'My Tracks' on my SGS3, it's by Google. When I used it, I had no problems. I stopped because I didn't need it. But yeah, it tracks your path, speed distance and elevation. Also, it's free Very Happy

Edit: You can upload, and then view your tracks on Google Drive.

Edit 2: You can set the accuracy you want. E.g, 1 metre, 3, metres, 7 metres and so on. It wasn't those exact numbers but you get where it's going.

This should do the job. Pretty cheap and only searches for a location when you tell it to.

Could you use Google Location history, it does need gps to be really accurate but is free apart from using some data?
