I've got some small pin holes developed in one of the pipes and it's making a bit of grunt (sounds better, actually!). The only problem is that I can't afford to shell out for new pipes just yet. What damage is caused if you don't replace them for a while? Is it just loss of power?

I've never had the pipes go on me before so I'm genuinely ignorant on this issue. Cheers in advance, people.

Apply putty to downpipe, wrap in the bean can then secure with the jubilee clip.

That said, buy new downpipes.

You will need to eventually anyway, may as well get on with it.

My divvy pipes have been gradually getting worse more or less since I bought them. No damage caused yet. I don't think I've ever owned a bike that hasn't had leaky headers Embarassed Laughing

That said, maybe this will help you: https://www.bikechatforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=237320&highlight=exhaust

if you can get the money together buy the motad ones, I got mine from them on ebay for £140

the delkevic ones are ok, but lots of folks have to get hteir carbs balanced afterwards

the header studs are a bitch, 6mm with long nuts, if you can't a blowlamp or welding torch to heat them up first one of those pen size butane soldering tools off ebay work well

be careful with the radiator, there's an elbow on the lower rhs, I managed to rip it out of the paper thin rad when removing it, delkevic do pattern rads, another £90 Embarassed

If you decide to replace the pipes, don't remove the studs!

Dremel off the nuts instead, much simpler.

Or you might get lucky and after a week of dousing the header nuts with penetrative spray and very carefully loosening them, they may all pop off without a hitch. Mine certainly did.

Will depend how old yours is, how crudded up they are and general luck of the draw. A number of folk on the Fazer forum have snapped header bolts and had to pull the engine out to remove the remains or re-drill them down at an engineering workshop. Mine came off without issue.

Anyhow, here's a little write up on when I swapped some Motad downpipes onto my 2003 Fazer.

Cheers, Arfa. I knew I'd seen an article somewhere. Thanks a lot.

A100man - thank you. I've sent him a message.

as I am sure most of you know- anyone selling pipes or systems with the requirement to dyno test, change jets or balance carbs before use is selling stuff that has not been developed and designed properly (or at all!)
