So the divvy had a problem.engine is running smooth not missing .all four headers are at the same temp checked this with a temp probe from work.it just been serviced new filters fuel air and oil .new plugs gapped to spec and carbs recently balanced.
but it seems to be totally down on power as if it is running on 3 cylinders but it's definetly not.must be something wrong I could not keep up a gs500 this morning Sad .any ideas of what it could be this one has me stumped.

Cheers all Thumbs Up

Have you checked for air leaks? Have the valve clearances been checked any time recently? Are the coils in good nick?

What's the nature of the power loss i.e. are there noticeable flat spots, is it jumpy, or is it all totally smooth but feels like you're down 30HP?

i assume it was a new fuel filter as well, as you wrote.

only reason is i had an ntv ran fine but at full throttle, it just seemed to do little above 70moh...changed filter all back to normal.

probably of no help, just thought i'd mention it.

good luck with fault finding.. Thumbs Up

Not sure about coils. Symptoms are similar to what happened when my reg/rec went, but that was because my battery had been killed so I was essentially just running the battery completely flat (as it wasn't holding a charge anymore). Can you test battery and rectifier with multi-meter?

Battery is pretty new and lights get brighter when revved a bit..I just don't think it is electrical.the bike is running fine not missing or any thing.it pulls fine but not with the same power as before.fuel filter was changed and fuel is running clear through it.its topping out at 80ish almost feels like it's restricted...starts first time all the time from hot and cold.could it be the choke not closing completely that's all I can think of now Confused

Cheers for the help so far all Thumbs Up

I've had something similar on my thundercat. I somehow managed to twist the fuel hose after having the tank off which restricted the fuel flow.

maybe time to give the carbs and overhaul.

A plague on Viragos is sticking carb slides and ruptured diaphragms, causes lumpy running and lack of power but no cold headers at idle, divvy is from same era, do same problems apply?

Fuck yeah fixed it Dance!

As mentioned above removed carbs stripped them all nice and clean.fuel lines etc all ok .then misses came out with bacon .and said whats that rattling sound coming from the exhaust.took a look and guess what the spring which holds the baffle in place had come of .causing the baffle to sit at a angle.blocking half the pipe of.so put it back in place replaced the spring.and hey presto back to it full 63bhp .runs a lot better now Embarassed

Cheers for the help again all Karma
