Don't, just don't.
Back in the 80s let a mate borrow my 350LC because I got a can't get to work sob story. When it wouldn't start one morning he punched and dented the tank. Never got it sorted or paid me...
So don't, just don't. ____________________ stinkwheel: He had an animated .gif of a cat performing fellatio. It's not socially acceptable. It can have real life adverse effects on other people. |

This is how I rode many motorbikes during my lean years (as in low pay), my mates/step-brother would just lend me their bikes as and when I wanted.
I cannot help you with the legalities I'm afraid, it was years ago, and things have changed massively 'insurance wise' these days.
I'm sure Paddy will know about this...he's the sort who will happily lend a spare motorbike to a mate. ____________________ Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter, and those who matter won't mind - Dr. Seuss |

Asking for trouble really...
I've loaned a few bikes out, I'd say 3 have been handed back in as close to similar condition, 4 have been returned crashed and essentially written off and 1 never came back.
1 came back damaged but was paid for, so does restore faith in people!
Legalities, insurance. Who owns it, insuring another persons bike when they "own it" can be a decision swayer for insurance.
Where it is stored... if its stolen, are you going to ask your mate to pay for it or let insurance deal with it, again...see the point above. Any way to not pay out will be used.
In short, I loan bikes for a day or whatever so people can either try it, if they aren't in the position to buy one but want to know what it rides like then I'll loan it. However loaning overnight stuff is left to close friends and family, even then its heavily reserved.

I've only had one problem after lending someone my bike; the clutch basket broke into many small pieces when they did a wheelie. But it wasn't really a problem cos I then borrowed one of their bikes whilst sorting a replacement engine from a breakers. They paid £100 towards it (if my memory serves me correctly) and helped with the engine swap so alls well that ends well.
I wouldn't bother unless its someone you know and trust. The fact you're asking about legalities and stuff like parking tickets suggests that you're questioning how trustworthy the guy is.
As Paddy and the bike he lent to Alexio shows, a parking ticket should be the least of your concerns if lending a vehicle someone. Bin it, you've bought it should go without saying... lose it and you've bought it even moar so! |

I've co owned a bike for a while with my dad, and maybe in the right circumstances I'd co own something with a mate too. But if the other person that's using the bike does not have any cash tied up in it, then they won't care about it simples!
I wonder how married blokes get on with having a nicely sorted family car that's either a sporty model, or something they have put time and work into making decent and a bit pride and joy?
I can't imagine if you had just for example say a mint Corrado VR6 slammed and polished to glassy perfection, rolling on 18" Diamond cut BBS split rims, letting the wife ram it up and down curbs and into shopping trolly's, or againsts bollards, fence posts or parked cars in the supermarket car park while trying to find a space and keep the screaming brats inside quiet! |

Whenever I've thrown my leg over someone elses bike, I've done it knowing I've got cash in the bank for a replacement. ____________________ Chances are quite high you are not in my Monkeysphere, and I don't care about you. Don't take it personally.

Only time I have and will ever likely lend my bike was to the owner of the company I work for, who is definitely good for money and a friend who at the same time lent me his ER-6, so all good.
If I crashed it, I'd pay for it 100%, major dick move otherwise.
I very rarely accept offers from other people to let me ride their bike, long term loans are out of the question to anyone. ____________________ Malaguti F12 Phantom-Dead, Suzuki AY50- Dead, NRG power DD LQ, CBR125.
