Hi all I had a problem with no spark. I changed cdi and presto. Now however I can only do 40mph. Sometimes I get to 50 but rarely.

Before I repaired with a new cdi when she was running I did 65.

Seems to have a sort of flat spot on the throttle 3/4 of the way. Like has no more power to give.

Is it my carb settings as I had it off the bike at one point during repair. If so any tip on how to set it? Novice here.

Edit.

Exhaust pops with throttle closing from over half.

Sounds like the mixture is way out, possibly an air leak? with the bike running spray water over the rubber intake boot between the engine and carb and see if the engine speed changes.

Mine would pop a little at idle, but yours sounds way out.

Check the spark plug is clean, the spark gap is to specification, and that you have a strong enough spark. If the bike is eating CDIs, either your ignition coil or the witing to it has an intermittent short, or your rectifier is on the way out. Get a multimeter and check electrics carefully. Most "carb" problems are electrical. Most of the other ones are inexpert reassembly after an electrical fault.

Thanks for the reply. I have no idea how to adjust the mixture. It's my first cdi in 8 months but it was damaged. Any idea how I can adjust it. My choke cable snapped could that be the problem.

I doubt it is helping - if you know it's broken, get it fixed.

I would wait till that's fitted and fixed - no use chasing multiple issues if one could be the root cause of the other(s).

Fix the choke operation. If its on and left on it will foul your plug causing plug to be black. Is plug black with dry soot or oily?

Check your air filter is not blocked.

What's your oil like, is the level low, high, is the oil thin and reeking of petrol?

Carb should have thumbwheel idle adjustment, a drain screw and a little screw behind a blanking plug for idle mixture correction. Unless you moved it when you dismantled the carb, leave well alone. Check fuel level in carb, and check the fuel in your float bowl is clean. This requires some clear plastic tubing and a manual with the correct float level. Beyond that mixture adjustment requires changing parts in the carb.

A high fuel level caused by a maladjusted or leaking float, debris in the float valve or a worn float valve is easily correctable.

Get a new plug in there and have a spare. If you've got a working choke, good float level, a good air filter, no air leaks and clean fuel, then next most likely is the rest of your combustion chamber looks like your plug and that's probably cureable with some redex dosing and an italian tune-up.

Further suggestions: slide does not move in carb freely or diaphragm is damaged, or something to do with this operation was not assembled correctly when you serviced the carb. [/u]

You could have the incorrect ignitor and it is not advancing the ignition. This will cause performance to be flat as a pancake.

Assuming you mean the one on the slide, yes it will. Use some rubber cement and a small patch. Inner tube repairs are fine for this.

Check the part code, IIRC german (and perhaps other) models had an electronicly limited top speed of about 80kph.

Amusing that some european learner bikes were required to not be capable of 60, and pre-2012 125 suitable for the test had to be theoreticly capable of 60...

Check the part number on the CDI against suzuki's parts catalog. Try websites like this https://www.cmsnl.com/suzuki-gz125-2000-y_model13796/partslist/FIG19.html#results or cultivate a relationship with a dealer

Simpler question, is it the same part code as the CDI you broke?
