When my ZXR400 got written off I bought it back from the insurers. They had told doooovla that it had been scrapped when infact it was a cat D write off.
Took a bit of form filling but it got sorted in the end. ____________________ Quietly and consistently taking the piss.

The good news is that a scrapped vehicle earns them nothing, while an extant one earns them revenue and blackmail demands.
The bike does exist, so worse case it'll be an MVSA check.
In the mean time, I'd have a look at V765 and see if you can find any documentation to support its original age. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

They don't know anything about anything, which is why a vehicle only becomes SORNable when any kind of record is updated.
It's my personal belief that they have lost tens of thousands, if not millions of all kind of records in some kind of screw-up possibly from when they were porting all their records to digital and they are still re-building their databases from info provided by the public. One time when I had to make a call about a classic registration I spoke to a guy who took the registration right away and said 'that's another one'. It wouldn't surprise me if there has been a basement full of water-damaged un-readable records somewhere in Cardiff that were impossible to convert, and they have kept it carefully covered-up. ____________________ a.k.a 'Geri'

A lot of it was on microfilm. They were still photographing all correspondance and storing it on microfilm back in 1995 on my third of 12 attempts to get them to spell my name correctly on my licence. I know this because "I don't have time to go look up the microfilm of your letter so I'll take your word for it."
My bet is they still have it all, but have no fucking idea what to do with it all, how to look at it, how to digitise it or how to find anything relevant. Bet it's stored in strict order of date received, oldest at the bottom. A bit like my inbox at work. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. That's when things happen. I went on a school trip in the late 70's/ early 80's and had a tour of the DVLC and there were computers there that were storing data on big reels of tape, similar to the one you see in The Italian Job. ____________________ a.k.a 'Geri'

The real question is why anyone would want a > 1989 aged C90?!?!?!?
DVLA had done the right thing for once, in assuming this was scrapped |

They also cashed the cheque i included with the V62 for a new V5... So if it actually is scrap.. will i get this back?
Had a chat with the original owner and they've had the slip back from the DVLA saying they're no longer the registered owner.. what is going on... ____________________ A2 Passed 18/6/10 |

whilst trying to get them to accept that my bsa was real and not imaginary i had one guy admit that any vehicles that weren't on the road during the digitization period simply disappeared.
another thing that annoys me is the fact that once a vehicle is scrapped, its numberplate disappears forever.
could have had a mint numberplate with my surname on if it hadn't been on a grenada that got crushed in 1993. ____________________ Turbocharged drag thing / project death weapon / GK73A

Well.. rang the DVLA up this morning, and the woman who sent me the letter was the one who picked up the phone that was easy..
She said its probably something to do with the old V5's having a part about scrapping the bike, where as the new ones don't..
The only bit i was interested in, was she said that when she receives the form i filled in with extra information, i should be issue with a new V5 just gotta play the waiting game now.. ____________________ A2 Passed 18/6/10 |

Update, she got my letter with extra information and confirmed that it all matches and looks good...
She has re-requested the V5 for me, so now someone has to run around and dig it out of an archive somewhere because a new one hasn't been issued since 1981 haha... sooo
So as long as they can actually find it (please spaghetti god!) It should be good to go! ____________________ A2 Passed 18/6/10 |

Last update.
Got the V5 Today I'm the 2nd owner.. so definitely was a case of it being stored in an ancient tomb protected by a Mummy.
Just chuffed it wasn't actually scrapped! ____________________ A2 Passed 18/6/10 |
