Hello
I have a 1992 ex French military Cagiva Elefant E350 T4. It has both a kick start and starter motor.
The kick start has an automatic decompression system that works off the kick starter.
This means it's a pig to find TDC to kick the thing esp when the battery has died from repeated starts when greenlaning.

Does anyone have the manual or any idea how to kick it without wasting valuable energy randomly kicking at it in the vain hope i GET THE RIGHT STROKE?

Thanks in desperation!
J

No, only if you install a window in the magneto side casing and mark up the magneto TDC Point and corresponding casing mark in red sharpie!!!! - of course - stupid idea. Sorry.

You could, however put her into 2nd gear, roll her forward gently but firmly - and when she really bites and locks the back wheel you'll know you've sort of hit just about short of TDC.

Then, give her a tiny blip on the Kick Starter to get her to true TDC.

Then, kick over as normal.

Possibly helpful bit: The advice for Enfields is to put it in 2nd then roll backwards until you're stopped by compression.

Pointless aside: There's also a whole set of rituals involving pre-kicking under decompression/valve lift, listening for compression stroke whoosh, and finding TDC by watching the ammeter twitch while you slowwwwly turn it over. I followed them religiously until I realised that it was still a lottery whether it fires on the first kick, and I can be off a lot quicker by just climbing on and stamping away until I get lucky.
