Just had to replace one of the coolant hoses on the ER6 after it split and looks like I need to do the other one.
Looking at the inside of the split one you can see just how much it is perished. Keep in mind this bike is only 7 years old and there are many bikes with more years on them on original pipework so check your hoses before the upcoming season starts

Not having a lot of luck with rubber stuff are you mate?
Might want to check your gimp suit/gas mask in case it's splitting at the seams ____________________ a.k.a 'Geri'

Yeah most people don't realise that fuel lines have a service life either. ____________________ a.k.a 'Geri'

My GPZ500 was 9 years old when I got it. The coolant hoses crackled when squeezed gently.
Well, I'm sure the next owner replaced them. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

That the link pipe from radiator to water pump? My GF's 57 ER6 is just about OK, but not looking great. I dismantled the pump over the weekend owing to oil coming out the weep hole with the engine running, currently awaiting replacement seals. Not that uncommon on the ER6 either.
Are you replacing with oem original part, or cut length from somewhere else? ____________________ Bikes: S1000R, SH350; Exes: Vity 125, PS125, YBR125, ER6f, VFR800, Brutale 920, CB600F, SH300x4

Given the advances in modern materials and the relatively short length of hose on a motorcycle. Why someone would replace a perished rubber radiator (or fuel) hose with another rubber radiator hose is entirely beyond me.

A few years ago I had a pretty scary hose failure on my Morris Minor. The fuel hose connecting the fuel pump on the bulkhead to the carburettor started leaking at the midpoint, dripping fuel onto the top of the exhaust pipe while the engine was running . It'd been happening for some time as I'd noticed an increase in fuel consumption, but couldn't work out why until one day I stopped the car and smelt fuel. Because the hose had a braided covering, I couldn't see the degradation in the rubber hose underneath until it started leaking. ____________________ Chris
