coils go quite often on these, they're the same as a honda vision and cost anything from £6 to £20 on ebay

I have replaced the coil and the starter motor don't work and can only be kicked so could it be the starter relay?

12v is very low. A good, charged battery will be higher. What happens to the voltage when you hit the ignition and try to get it to turn over with the starter?

It may run without a battery, but that requires that the charging system is working correctly.

On my VFR, when the stator or reg/rec has died and the battery is no longer charging, it normally has enough juice to do initial startup, light up the dash etc., but then it dies when the ignition is pressed. It'll bump-start, but it'll only run until the battery is drained.

My bet is that something is wrong with your charging system and your battery doesn't have enough juice left to do any starting.

Your VFR has a fuel pump and or FI hence the need for power. The OP's ped is carb'd and vacuum tapped so can be started on a kick with a completely dead battery and should stay running. From what he has done already I'd be looking at the fuelling, the diaphragm for the vac tap may be buggered and stopping any petrol getting to the carb, hence it running for a little bit but not since.

I see where your coming from but that don't explain the spark problem . All lights run off the mag when it is running

How have you been checking the plug for a spark? If you have been relying on the kicker then there is no way you could hold the plug earthed against the frame, while kicking the thing over and watching the plug.

Ok, swap roles (just incase your brother is being potato)

From what I'm reading (correct me if wrong)

Started on kick, ran for a bit and died

Started one more time and did the same

No longer starts

You have replaced

Spark plug
HT lead
Plug cap
Coil

You have checked various things (with a mutimeter I assume).

So assuming all those new parts work and your checks were correct, we know the spark plug should be sparking.

You say it's not so either it is and you are not checking it properly or one of the parts you have checked/replaced was checked incorrectly.

If the plug does spark, then your issue is fuelling (you could toss a capful of fuel down the plughole, go all Mr Motivator on the kicker and if it fires you have a fuelling issue and a potato brother)

If it doesn't spark then do all your checks again working back from the plug all the way to the CDI because you have missed something the first time round.

When you have ruled out everything else. You then try a replacement CDI, if it works old CDI was dead.

time to get a multimeter and see what power you have coming out of the stator plate and going to the coil

I'd start looking for a break in the circuit somewhere, (broken wire) and be continuity checking all along the circuit.

have you checked the battery yet

in all your posts you are changing electrical componants but you havnt mentioned the battery

you say it powers the gauges but a minimal bit of power will do that

you can't just keep throwing money at it

buy a fecking multimeter, less than £5

spend some time checking the electrical system to see where you have power and where you don't and use that information to work out what is wrong, simple continuity of a wire or connector may be all you're suffering from
