Hey every one i hope you can help im having a few issuses with my bike

Regal raptor DDE8 125 ( i know its not a great bike but it did the job)

So heres the problems im having the first thing i noticed is the bike wont find neutral anymore i can sometimes getting in N but theres no light to say that it is and i have to start the bike as if in gear

the second problem is the bike recently started to jerk like mad when im in my top gear it feels like its suddenly loosing power then gaining it then loosing it again sadly i cant say if this is at high rpm as i dont have anything to tell me what my rpm is and i was on a busyish road when it started so i did wanna risk playing about with it it rides fine in every other gear 1-4

now i have noticed that the oil is rather low i should have some more in by wednesday hopefully but could that be whats coursing the problem im having

im compeletly new to bikes and have no clue so please be as obvious as can be and explain with as much detail as possible please

thanks for any help you guys can give

Nay

Don't ride with low oil. Got a pic of your chain and sprockets?

With your lack of engine oil, I'd be surprised if the chain and sprockets are in good nick Wink

But no, got a pic?

That is the drive sprocket cover.. take it off and all you will find behind is the other end of the chain and the small sprocket it goes round.

First OIL... DO NO ride this thing with low oil!!!! they dont like it. they only hold about a pint of the stuff and being a twin, it has to lubricate twice as many bits; being overhead cam, it also has to be delivered under pressure to the top of the engine. Running these things low on oil, is a recipe for a siezed cam or crank and major engine maledies.. so just DONT.. oil should only be a fiver or so for a litre, it dont need really fancy stuff, and that should be more than enough for three oil-changes, or a couple of changes and a fair few inbetweenie top ups. There is NO excuse for running these low on lube.

Second... OIL!... the clutch runs 'wet', inside the engine, in its engine oil. If the oil is old, then it gets 'thick' and wont help your clutch adjustment any. also, the Neutral lamp switch is inside the gearbox, in that same oil, and is a simple brass lever, that when in 'neutral' lines up with a brass pin in the crank case, and makes an 'earth' connection through the gear-shafts. If the oil is old and buggered, then either or, the moving contact is sliding over shit, not contact pin, and doesn't make circuit to make light come on.. or it does, but the crappy oil between bits of metal makes a high resistance return on the circuit so the bulb only gets half or less the volts it should.

The starting point for sorting out your problems here is to do a FULL SERVICE... starting with.... changing the oil!

While you are at it, you may like to look at your oil strainer and clean that; (Snowie's Helpful HOW2: change Oil & CLean strainer (Small Honda's +) )

AND you would probably henefit from checking your valve tappet clerances: (Snowie's Helpful HOW2: Adjust Tappets & CCT (Honda 'Benley' CB/CD/CM twin )

I know they say 'Honda'; The AJS Cruiserette thing is a Honda CM125 'Rebel' copy/derivative.. and uses the Benley engine, though I think that some later models use a 180 timed crank from the CB125 rather than the 360 timed one from the CM125.. If you need to work that one out, PM me.

AFTER an oil change and adjusting your tappets.. for which I can thoroughly reccoment the £3 special tappet tool of e-bay.... then replace the spark-plugs; clean, oil and tension your chain, oil and adjust clutch cable, and THEN get back to us with the results.

Chances are that your issues will all 'Service out'.. but if not, we'll be off to a much better start to work out what might be up, and where to look to put it to rights.

okay so i just had abit of a tinker around with it trying to get in into neutral and it went into neutral but didnt show it was there was no light on but i could let go of the clutch and the bike stayed running and if reved the bike wouldnt move so im sure that it was in neutral but when i knocked it on and off again it wouldnt start unless i pulled the clutch in

Only one thing worse than being broke.. and that's being broke with a broken bike..... and problems only tend to get worse and more expensive to fix the more you try and ignore them......

Chain tensioned correctly ?Seems to be a thing with chinese copies if the chain is slack neutral is a pig to find .Possibilty for the non starting when thought it was in neutral was it was actually between gears hence why it started with clutch pulled in (part of safety devices on starting circuit )

On that bike if you dont know how to tension the chain... LEARN.. and don't ride the thing till you do, its a rather long chain for a tiddler, being a stretched wheel-base cruiser, and its the one bit of the buggers that's of particularly questionable quality and needs frequent adjustment..
I cant remember off the top of my head, but it's something daft like 130 links where a 125 Superdream is about 100 links, so about 30% more links means 30% more 'stretch' as each one wears, so they need tensioning more frequently to stop the chain coming off the cogs, wrapping around the rear wheel and locking you up into a 'skid'... as Snowie found out the hard way to her cost, and how I ended up suffering all her mechanical maledies ever since.. but that is another story...

1; you slacken the rear brake adjuster
2; you slacken the rear brake stay arm bolts
3; you undo the lock-nuts around the bolts poking out of the back of the swing arm either side of the back axle.. those are the chain adjusters
4; you slacken off the axle bolt
5; you tighten up the adjuster bolts until you have the amount of free play in the chain, that it tells you in the book... checked as you should have been shown during your CBT.... or as described in the owners book
6; you check the axle is straight, the adjustment marks the same on either side of the swing arm... and then RE-CHECK the chain tension... cos you have probably done it all on the chain side and then over tightened it when you adjusted the other... loosen/tighten either side as required to get the axle straight and the tension right. Turn rear wheel checking that the chain runs smoothly, in-line on the sprockets and with no tight-spots.
7; do up axle nut
8; do up adjuster lock-nuts
9; do up rear brake stay bolts
10; re-adjust rear brake.

Errr.. I have a BAG with a part number... I think!!
Actually, two.....
07908-GE00200 -> £7.33 @ Dave Silvers
07708-0030400 -> £3.80 @ Dave Silvers
https://www.davidsilverspares.co.uk/graphics/parts/077080030400_large.jpg
Its a key for the tiny square on top of Small-Honda tappet pt-no - 90012-333-000 (£1.92 @ DSS for ref.. often chewed from lack of proper tool) As used on gazzillion little and old Honda's including the CG125 I believe, and a bunch of others.
top one is basically a 10mm socket with a small handle so you can do the lock-nuts up around the tappet key...
I got the pair from Dave-Silvers; they were 'special order' so took a couple of weeks to get here; but a better bet than the rather optimistic timing and 'chance' of e-bay items advertised for other models in other countries; but depends who's listing what when you look, I guess.
I got both, as there's no picture for the lock-nut tool, & I supposed that the key depended on it... it don't, so you don't need to get the set, just the (cheaper) key, so long as you have the 10mm AF spanner you used to take the rocker cover off!

Oh yeah; fits the square on the Benly Engine Cam-Chain Tensioner bolt, too.
