Do you use battery charger and which one?

If you use it do you have it permanently conected?

Just curious.

I use Oxford Oximiser 900 permanently connected (it has short permanent connection lead included in the box):

https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B005X8RAIE/ref=pd_lpo_sbs_dp_ss_2?pf_rd_p=569136327&pf_rd_s=lpo-top-stripe&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_i=B000R5B386&pf_rd_m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&pf_rd_r=1Z7MCMFG29Z2QF0VM3YZ

I have been looking also at:

CTEK XS 0.8 (you need to buy permanent connection comfort lead separetely):

https://www.ctekchargers.co.uk/ctek-xs08.php

Optimate 4 (it has short permanent connection lead included in the box):

I have 2.

A Ctek and some other random charger.

Both were free with a bike mag sub.

No way of having a trickle charge thing setup here.

Optimate, but it's only ever hooked up during winter and even then that's only if I'm not using the bike for over a week (hardly ever)

Hi,
I also have the oxford 900 (was a xmas prezzie Smile )
It does everything I need, including rescuing batterries I thought were f*cked. some as low as 5v.
its not connected to any of my bikes permanently but its always wired up to one of my spare batteries. (you never know when your gonna need a fully charged battery, right?)
I guess anythings better than a car charger...or no charger...
cheers,
GAZ

I don't trickle charge as bikes are outside. For flat batteries I use some £5 ebay special that just looks like a plug with some clips on wires. It does the job.

B6 'hobby charger'.

If you need to leave a battery charger permanently connected, it generally means you need a new battery of have a problem with the electrics.

Hein Gericke jobby that has bulk charge and maintenance functions. Leave it connected overnight once in a while over winter if i'm doing short runs and using all the heated bits. Actually needing it is a sign i need a new battery.

I have a CTEK MXS 5.0, which can do bikes, cars & AGM batteries. It has a desulphate mode and also recondition mode. While the charger is expensive (£50-60) it has brought two batteries back from the dead with the recondition function so it's paid for itself Thumbs Up

I've had Oxford and Datatool chargers in the past and both have died within a couple of years. CTEK charger is still going strong.

Yes, I use one.

It's made by the Mitsutachiwakinikkoshima* Corporation (Japan) Ltd.,
and permanently attached to the front-L/H side of my bike's engine; does exactly what it says on the tin/steel/alloy, supplying a great deal more charge to the battery than that which of the battery is demanded.

Weird, eh?

*I made that up.

I'd prefer to have the alarm disconnected and a better alarm unit where it's stored in that case - but yes, I did say 'generally' Smile.

Optimate 3+

I don't use it if the bike is in use, so only when there's ice about but it works well and the connection lead is tucked away under the seat rather than flapping in the breeze...
Avoid the really cheap Oxford one, a friend is on her 3rd in as many years, why she keeps buying the same again is beyond me.(Feminine logic perhaps)

I have two optimate 4s, one is permanently connected to the Hornet when it's not being used to stop the alarm from flattening the battery, the other is mostly used to keep a couple of spare batteries topped up and ready for use.

They've never caused a problem or missed a beat and have recovered a couple of batteries that would have been written off otherwise. Smile

CTEK MXS 5 here too - chosen as it does also support car batteries. Whilst a lower charge rate would work, my car has a rather large battery and if I need an emergency charge I want it to be relatively quick.

I only use the charger normally on Mrs Bamt's bike which doesn't move much over winter. Also used for an initial charge on the new battery for my bike, but otherwise as I do a decent distance every day on the bike it doesn't normally need a top-up.

Optimate 3. I'm on my second - the first lasted about 5 years then gave up. This one is several years old now. I generally keep the bike plugged into it when it is at home; I attached the short fly-lead and also use this for providing power to my satnav or charging my phone when out and about. The Optimate saved my previous battery and extended its life by about 6-7 years; in fact I only recently put a new battery in my 1997 bike - the one I replaced was the factory-fitted one. I have a Datatool 3 which has never caused any problems but is the main reason for the Optimate.

I have one, and cycle it between bikes overnight when required. I don't leave a bike plugged in permanently.
