I want to increase the diameter of the grips on my bike, but without removing the original (factory heated grips). Looking for suggestions on how do make a tidy and durable job of it.

Obvious answer, but put a set of grip covers on? They're usually foam so the heat from the grips still bleeds through.

That'll be the sort of thing. Any idea on the foam density and how durable they are? I don't want something that'll fall apart after 3 months use.

What root problem are you solving?

If it's a sore throttle hand, I'd suggest a Cramp Buster.

Sore hands, yes. Never suffered it on my first one which was identical except 1) the grips were ever so slightly fatter and 2) I wore thicker gloves when I bought it in March.
Extra vibration damping would also be a bonus so I'm going to try those foam covers.

I had Grip Puppies on my BMW because the standard grips were just too thin for my giant hands, and they were already heated (normally I just stick heated grips on and they're thicker anyway). Showed no sign of wear at all, but did take a few goes to get them to stick down well with hairspray.

They're a bit skinny even for my stubby digits. Laaaaaydies grips.

I use Grip Puppies and have heated grips, they're the bee's bollocks. Current set went on around 7000 miles ago and the clutch side is only just starting to show signs of wear.

I've had a couple of sets of them and my tip for fitting is to use clear silicone bathroom sealant to stick 'em on. I found that hairspray and other solutions ended up coming loose when it pissed it down, to the point I nearly ended up in a ditch due to spinny-throttle syndrome.

I tried grip puppies over R&G heated grips. They are horrible if they get wet, and made my hands ache worse whatever the weather as the squishyness invites a tight grip. Size 11 gloves so reasonably large hands and long fingers. I found actively working on not holding on too tight a much better remedy.

cricket bat rubbers are cheap enough, if you can be faffed with the rolling on and trimming.

Just fitted a set of Grip Puppies, for the same reason as Pete.

So far, the cramp across the base of my thumb has gone (will be doing a longer ride than my commute tomorrow, I'll report back then) but I have introduced involuntary cruise control - the extra pressure on the throttle tube has overwhelmed the throttle return spring, so the throttle doesn't close when you release your grip.

Hasn't caused me a problem so far, but worth keeping in mind.

You need to get that sorted out. It's not a minor problem.

It's OK, I know the tester pretty well and it's another year before it needs doing.

Anyway, back at the plot, cramp seems to be gone - extra fat grips feel a bit unusual at first, but that passes.

Quite happy with the purchase so far, let's see what happens when it rains.

Quite tempted to give these a go; i've had on and off hand-pain for a couple of years now also.

Has anyone tried them with a cramp-buster out of interest? I'm guessing it might not work properly, which would make me less keen to buy them at the moment.

It's not like it's a noisy exhaust it's a safety issue. It might be O.k but also it might cause an accident.

Just saying.

Yes - I've had the 2 things fitted together permanently on the last 3 bikes with no issues. I have severe joint issues so need the larger grips otherwise it's too painful. Not had a problem with them in the rain either - we did 200 miles last Sunday through monsoon type rain and the puppies didn't even feel damp. I did have the heated grips on though.

Did you cut off the excess bit? If you don't, they'll grip around the bar end and provide a stay-open throttle. Even if you do cut them down, they can squeeze the end of the grip so it just touches the bar end.

I'll be up in 20 mins or so and have a look.

Hah, try my size 13s! I can never buy gloves or shoes over the interwebs, it's a waste of time. The answer to the question "which one do you prefer?" is usually "the only pair that fits" Sad

Brilliant, cheers Thumbs Up. Going to order a pair and give them a go.
