Suzuki GP100 restoration - SPARK ISSUE

Hey,

This is my first post to the forum and would be very grateful if anyone is able to help me out.

I have just purchased a 1988 Suzuki GP100 and has been sat for at least 2 years from what I understand.

When attempting to start the engine there is no spark.

I have taken the HT lead out and replaced the spark plug but each time I kick the engine over there is no spark. The very, very odd occasion I do see a spark but it is very weak.

Any suggestions as to what I can do?

check, clean and adjust the contact breaker. Left hand side of engine casing

I've checked the plug and points. Does the gp100 require a battery at all? I have made the assumption it doesn't need a battery for the engine to run.

Will have to check the other items.

Just frustrating as I get the occassional spark but it's very weak.

Want I am trying to understand is, does the gp 100 require a battery as part of the kick start.

I'm led to believe that you don't which is what I want to confirm. There will be no ignition light with this bike due to the nature.

A gp100 should run without a battery with the ignition on.spray some WD 40 inside the flywheel around the points . wood ruff key maybe worn. clean the points.

Can you get to maidstone at all?

I have no way really of getting the bike to Maidstone, going to have a tinker next week and see if I can make any progress.

Are the faces of the points clean of dirt and corrosion,, free from oil or grease (or WD40) and set to the correct gap when fully open?

Yup sounds like the usual points+ condenser need cleaning/replacing after not being used for a while
