Yup, that's the way to do it by the book. Buy a bike, cover through BikeSure, then get your chum to ride it in for you using the "other bikes" cover that they'll likely have.
However, do cost it up, you might get rinsed on the insurance. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

Most folk pass tests on 'loaners'.. they were just loaned to them by the school....
And they normally have a 'loan agreement' on schools letter headed paper, to say that the bike is MOT'd (if necessary) Taxed and insured for the 'borrower' to ride; some-time they clip a photo-copy of the schools insurance cert on the back, but, 'legally' that 'declaration' and the 'tractability' it provides should any-one want to check its legitimacy is all the DVSA need; they aren't an MOT man or a Police man, making sure your bike is 100% legal isn't their primary job; they merely have to ask the question and get some 'assurance' that bike you present for test is in accordance with test requirements.
Using your own bike, it's not a lot different, and while its advisable you take all the usual docs you would if you got a 'producer' off plod, ie V5 and insurance cert; you may not actually be asked to show them; JUST sign a declaration that he bike is taxed ad insured and legal for you to ride.
Using a private 'loaner', shouldn't be a biggie, and way back when was actually quite common! Local examiners often knew it wasn't your bike before they asked you.. they'd had umpety other lads turn up for test on it in recent weeks, and each one had no more than a two-week 'cover-note' from Swintons to say they could ride it! But, all on computer now....
AND you have the nigglie that most ins co's wont offer yo a policy o a bike you don't have a licence to ride; or that's not registered n your name, or put you as named rider on some-one elses policy.
It is possible to 'wing it' on the 'extension cover' you might get with a car insurance policy or another bike policy that allows you to "drive other vehicles with owner's consent" I have tried to maintain such extension on at least one policy I've held for the last twenty years; BUT, its a loop-hole they have been closing up; and in the small print, car policies now often don't state 'any vehicle; they state 'other car' to exclude covering bikes, buses or even lorries! While bike policies, IF they have it, may say "Up t the displacement of the insured vehicle", so if you have insured a 125 you can ride other peoples 125's but not 600's or 1000's.
But, you are in the margins, and facing problems you don't need.
Use a School, do it by the book, keep it simple and straight forward ad make it easy for yourself not having to solve problems you don't need to.
I wouldn't suggest turning up to test on a GSXR600 to begin with; if its for an A2 test its out the question anyway, as it is not, cannot ad never will be an A2 eligible bike! For a full A test? Yeah, well, restricted steering lock and cramped up ridig position wont make it the easiest to wiggle through the Mod 1 cones or show on Mod 2 all your 'observations'! More 'problems' that you dot really need.
So what IS the problem?
Perennial one for every-one. MONEY
BUT that's what its for at the end of the day; you cant ride it, you cat eat it, you cant wear it, and it wont keep you warm unless its the paper sort and you set it on fire! All its good for it to pay for stuff to solve other problems.
Which means that the only 'real' problem in life is making the money to solve all your other problems.. make fewer problems that need money to solve, less of a problem making that money to start with is, isn't it?
But, look at what elce you get for that £600 coure fee other than a bike nder your bum for tests. You get umpety hours of expert tuition, and bike hire while you get it, and learning that should not just help dress up your riding so you are more likely to pass the tests and get a licence, BUT some 'learning' that one one two tips can save far more money than you spend, and a hell of a lot of 'hurt' in crashes you don't have because of it.!
Training ent a rip off, by a very long stretch of the imagination; you are getting an 'expert service' like a plumber, and I cant imagine one of them coming round to fix your central heating for as little as £180 a day, let alone giving you a big-bore motorbike to play with while they are fiddling with Mid-Position valves, twiddling taps and grumbling your pumps making a funny noise!
Or in short, cough up and make it easy on yourself! As the man with the hammer is alleged to have said! ____________________ My Webby'Tef's-tQ, loads of stuff about my bikes, my Land-Rovers, and the stuff I do with them!

Why would it ever be reasonable to be required to show a document that you weren't asked to bring? The list of required documents is here:
https://www.gov.uk/motorcycle-practical-test/documents-you-need-to-take-to-your-test
From your personal experience, not some third hand bollocks you imagine you overheard while making the tea for the real instructors, when have you seen a DVSA examiner asking to see documentary evidence of insurance, tax or MOT?
What centre, what bike, when, what were the circumstances, what was the name of the examiner, what was the name of the candidate? ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

They don't ask for docs other than those specifically required to partake in the test. CBT, theory & Licence, or CBT, Theory, Licence and Mod1 for Mod2.
However, there is a tick box on the form declaring that you iz legal innit! That you must check. In reality you can ride up on a stolen bike with no docs other than those above and do the tests. I wouldn't, but you could.
EDIT: That is extremely tongue in cheek. I did Restricted A (33BHP) to full A on my own bike. It was easier for me as I rode up with restriction, removed and added L plates. Did test and rode out with restriction for Mod1 and without for Mod2. ____________________ Currently: Yamaha DT 125 LC2,Repsol Fireblade, and Bumblebee MSX 125 |

cheers for all the replies
i think for now i will go the DAS route and see what i can do rather than have the hassle of insuring my own bike and getting a friend to ride it down as i would either be buying a cbr600 or r6, neither of which would be too mod1 friendly i guess. if i fail then maybe i will look into doing it solo rather than forking out even more money |

How so?
If you mean actually ride it in yourself unaccompanied by a certified DAS instructor, sure, that's a no-no.
But it's quite possible to get cover from BikeSure (and perhaps others) under your provisionaL entitlement that lets you ride it on test.
The issue is how you get it there. Accompanied by an instructor, van, trailer, licensed and insured chum rides it in for you, all viable. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.
