Hi,

I bought some Tech 7 cheapy neoprene handlebar muffs but they were naff so I returned them.

I'm ideally looking for some handlebar muffs that will fit an enduro bike (with hand guards). I go green laning so I'd rather not have any with fur inside.

I've heard good things about the Tuccano Urbano muffs, but there seems to be all sorts of different sorts.

I'm currently looking at getting the Oxford ones as they look like they'd slide over the hand guards easily. Are there any better ones than these for sub £30?

I wouldn't see past the tucano urbano neoprene boxing glove type.

I'd expect them to fit pretty much any bike.

Two main sorts. Ones for bikes with bar ends and one for bikes without bar ends.

Looks like yours has bar ends so that type. Old style R361 which has the plastic bit that stops them pulling your brake on inside or R363 for the newer style with the rigid part on the outside.

I own a pair of the former. The latter look easier to put on and off and a tad less draughty.

EDIT: Handguards might interfere. If they are just plastric ones, I'd still recommend the tucano urbanos but take the handguards off. If they are rigid "barkbuster" type handguards that also protect your levers, I'd go with some other sort.

The oxford ones are shite. Had some. Used once then thrown away.

How ghetto do you want them? A charity lamb skin jacket cut up with cable ties will work. Babyyam has a pair made from an old coat.

Even more ghetto? Chives made a pair of them using some ASDA 2 litre milk bottles. He then covered them with some carpet off cuts.

I'd ideally like to keep the hand guards as I doubt the reinforcement on those Tucano's would withstand much. Which would mean I'd have to go for the non-bar end versions?

Also, looking at pictures they seem to be fur lined?

Bar end versions will work fine over others as it's not a big bit that sticks out.

What was up with the muffs you'd had?

Cheap Oxford muffs over guards on my KTM along with heated grips did me fine - the guards meant they didn't try and press against levers as they did on other bikes and a looser fit made it easier to get my hand in/out.

They had a tiny orifice ( Laughing ), so they wouldn't have fit over the hand guards. They also had internal cuffs that would've made it hard to get hands in and out quickly.

These - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Tech-7-Motorcycle-Motorbike-Scooter-Neoprene-Boxer-Handlebar-Muffs-Bar-Pair-/261630340013?hash=item3cea622bad:g:2JsAAOSwiCRUiYJm

The oxford ones look more suited as they have large openings on both sides. I assume they just slide over the hand guards? I'm not concerned about levers being pushed as the hand guards will prevent this.

Yea, easily fit over hand guards.

For normal day to riding, not so great, but make perfect sense on a dirt bike used off road.

Thanks, I'll probably get some of these then since they're more suited to offroading, even though the Tucano's are probably better, these seem more practical for me.

Tuccano's are definitely better for staying warm - however, combine the looser muffs with heated grips and they do pretty well - I've been green laning in November and been fine on the three quarter hour ride home on the motorway with soaking hands thanks to heated grips and not much airflow.

Sounds good, I was trying to avoid heated grips but might have to look into them.

If you go for the symtek ones that go under standard grips, you can't tell they're there - you can get cheap Chinese copies; not sure how good they are, however.

Yeah, the main turn-off for me with heated grips is the awful, fat grips. Those ones you suggested look quite fiddly but once they're on they'd be better as I can keep my normal off road grips.

Same here. You wouldn't know these were fitted bar for the switch.
Don't take long to fit.

I've tried both. They are good in proportion to their price... The Chinese ones were 1/10th of the price of the symteks.

Awesome, thanks. Just looked at the Symtek ones and they're £60! Think I'll go with the chinese ones for >£5. Thumbs Up

Try £1.94 delivered. They work, and there's no reason that they shouldn't since they're just a couple of resistors, a switch and some heat shrink.

Delivery time would be my priority at the moment.

Think I'll buy these and go for the heated grip/muff combo, I like how they've demonstrated them over the top of the grips on the pictures Laughing

Problem? That's how I fitted mine - that exact kit. The only issue is ensuring there's enough slack in the cable to the throttle side. Also, make sure the heat shrink is holding the cables against the grip, or whip a cable tie around so that the cable isn't tugging at the connectors on the pads.

You can ignore MCN's ratings, he's just on a sperg-sulk again because I downrated him for parroting about chickens.
