Mornin'

So, my ZZR currently has cruise control in that the throttle is fairly smooth to use but doesn't shut itself very quickly.

I'm presuming it's a case of open the throttle housing on the bars, un-clip the cables and get some oil down them giving them a little jiggle as I go to help the oil on it's way?

Any tools to make this job a bit easier / simpler?
How do you use the tool if it's not obvious?

I cut the corner off an envelope then snip the very corner off that so it is just big enough to get the nipple through. I then tape this over the cable like a little funnel and make sure the cable is being held verticaly and fill with oil.

It may well be that it is not the cables themselves but the throttle tube on the handlebar. In the past I have found that old grease and dirt have caused the problem.

So once you have removed the cables from the throttle tube, see if it turns smoothly on the handlebar.I always clean the inside of the tube with some WD40 on a rag, doing the same to the right side of the bar. Then lubricate with GT85.

It will not hurt to do the cables at the same time Wink Thumbs Up

i had an issue with bar end weights causing drag on my throttle. basically the weight was rubbing on the tube no allowing it to spring back

Make blu-tack / plasticene funnel around top of cable and pour in lube of choice. I use wd40 to flush out crud and then usually some engine oil, although i took to filling a very corrosion prone cable with acf50. The cables should have a nylon liner so mostly you just need to use a light oil to clush out any crud buildup.

Grip rubber used to bind against the control body on one of my bikes. I got given a large washer made of shiny smooth plastic to sort that out, along with a very long lecture on mounting my grip rubbers. Worked well, fitting grip rubbers was even harder to get wrong.

Could also be a broken "close" branch of the throttle cable?

Throttle opens and closes normally, just not under it's own steam.

I'm presuming the close cable not being connected / snapped would cause a delay in throttle shutting?

So, clutch cable done,

it sprayed out again from the other end of the metal noodle so looks like there's a split which isn't great

going to keep an eye on it and think about ordering a replacement cable but will probably just gaffa tape it to stop muck / water getting in

Throttle cables will be done on the weekend.

No, springs in the carbs will snap them shut even without the 'close' cable.

Pro tip

Almost all jap throttles have a drain hole in the bottom get a can with a "straw" like WD40 and spray up the whole while working the throttle (engine off) works 9 out of 10 times takes seconds
