Help with keeping an NSR running smoothly...

2 stroke so I've heard they need a lot of love and attention anyone gimme some pointers..?

Use decent 2-stroke oil. I'm using GTS at the moment, but you can use good semi-synthetic also.

Warm up for a good 3-5 miles before going past about 5000 revs.

When starting from cold, put the choke on full, and wait until the revs drop to normal idle speed, about 1.5-2k, then choke fully in. You might need a little blip of the throttle when you come off the choke to keep it running (if it's very cold).

All other maintenance is general, so I think that's it for 2-strokes.

Lubricate your chain - I do this at least once a week, what you use it up to you they range from Enduro lubricant to Sportsbike Chain wax. One tip is to do this AFTER you come back from a ride since the chain is warmer and the lubricant can work its way into the links.

Check your oil levels - Fully synthetic/Half synthetic 2 stroke oil, shouldnt need filling up too often but keep an eye out for it.

Check Your coolant (if it has a resevoir) - especially if the engine temperature is constantly higher than normal.

Brake fluid levels - so you can stop before you hit that tree. Although this probably wont be a problem but its a 2 second check. Make sure bike is upright (might need a mate to hold it since might have no centre stand).

Tyre Pressures - Especially when in cold weather where they heat up and cool down again each time you ride it.



Other than that.

Warm the engine for 1-2 minutes before moving off, or more if its peticularly cold or if its convienient.
(I open garage get bike out and leave it to warm up while i get helmet, gloves, balaclava on... and close up the garage etc. Warms up for a good 5 mins without me having to sit around)
