Took my 1979 cb250 super dream for an Mot 3 months early as I'm going to sell it .
Some of the advisories seem a bit odd , I'll list them all just to give balance as some are fair enough .
Chain and sprocket worn ( not excessively )
Exhaust is leaking but excessively
No chain guard ?? - Not having a chain guard isn't a fail (having a loose one is) but it's not all that safe, so advise and pass.
No neutral light ? ( it works so not sure )
Rusty mudguard ? - The steel mudguard incorporates a fork brace, if it's weakened by rust, it can be a fail, depending on how bad it is.
Foot rests worn ? - They are meant to be anti slip, if they are worn, they might be slippery, so not safe.
Gear lever pivot bush worn ? - This would fall under the scope of a defective machine control, again, could be a fail if it's bad enough.
First two are fair and I knew this but as I'm selling I'm not worried but the others .
Is he just filling it in to look like he's been busy checking it my bike over .

Having lots of advises can be a PITA, especially if you're busy, you don't want to be writing the Magna Carta when you've got a queue. I'm pretty sure some of those don't a have a predefined entry, so he would have had to type them out manually.
All testers have different ways, I tend to mention it to the presenter if it's a single minor thing, or something I've noticed that isn't part of the test, others will put it on the certificate as a visual reminder.
But with a list, I'll put it on the cert just to be safe - better to have a record that you noticed it, than get hauled over the coals when something the presenter forgot you told them, breaks down the line. ____________________ Things get better with age; I'm close to being magnificent........

On my bikes previous MOT the only advisory was:-
"Rear reflector not central"
It actually had two reflectors, one either side of the centre line of the bike, I ignored it.
The same bike passed this years MOT with the same reflector arrangement but no advisories, go figure! ____________________ "Everybody needs money, that's why they call it money!" |

Sounds like a 1970s country music singer.
So I immediate changed my MOT centre forks have been fine ever since. ____________________ They're coming to take me away, ho-ho, hee-hee, ha-haaa, hey-hey,

I got an advisory for front wheel bearings being 'out of tune'...
Eh?
"Well they make a noise..." He said... "but it's not very melodious...
- you can grease'em
- you can change'em
- or you could try teaching them the score of Sgt Pepper's... your call, really!"
I think it was a 'slow' day for him!
He gives the Seven-Fifty the same Advisory every year "Handlebars rusty"; Otherwise only one I ever seem to get off him on any of the other bikes is "Tyres are old" ____________________ My Webby'Tef's-tQ, loads of stuff about my bikes, my Land-Rovers, and the stuff I do with them!
