It's not a moan as it passed but ...

Took my 1979 cb250 super dream for an Mot 3 months early as I'm going to sell it .

Some of the advisories seem a bit odd , I'll list them all just to give balance as some are fair enough .

Chain and sprocket worn ( not excessively )
Exhaust is leaking but excessively
No chain guard ??
No neutral light ? ( it works so not sure )
Rusty mudguard ?
Foot rests worn ?
Gear lever pivot bush worn ?

First two are fair and I knew this but as I'm selling I'm not worried but the others .
Is he just filling it in to look like he's been busy checking it my bike over .

He did say don't worry as it's an old bike .

Just thought I'd share .

Probably as that is kind of how an MOT works. Wink

If I was keeping it I certainly would but I want a shiney bike so I need the space , I'll put it in the advert what's needed .

He mentioned the bearing last year but nothing this year .

Just a couple seem very strange .

Some of the advisories seem a bit odd , I'll list them all just to give balance as some are fair enough .

Chain and sprocket worn ( not excessively )
Exhaust is leaking but excessively
No chain guard ?? - Not having a chain guard isn't a fail (having a loose one is) but it's not all that safe, so advise and pass.
No neutral light ? ( it works so not sure )
Rusty mudguard ? - The steel mudguard incorporates a fork brace, if it's weakened by rust, it can be a fail, depending on how bad it is.
Foot rests worn ? - They are meant to be anti slip, if they are worn, they might be slippery, so not safe.
Gear lever pivot bush worn ? - This would fall under the scope of a defective machine control, again, could be a fail if it's bad enough.

First two are fair and I knew this but as I'm selling I'm not worried but the others .
Is he just filling it in to look like he's been busy checking it my bike over .

Having lots of advises can be a PITA, especially if you're busy, you don't want to be writing the Magna Carta when you've got a queue. I'm pretty sure some of those don't a have a predefined entry, so he would have had to type them out manually.

All testers have different ways, I tend to mention it to the presenter if it's a single minor thing, or something I've noticed that isn't part of the test, others will put it on the certificate as a visual reminder.

But with a list, I'll put it on the cert just to be safe - better to have a record that you noticed it, than get hauled over the coals when something the presenter forgot you told them, breaks down the line.

The chain guard , didn't really take much notice it didn't have one , but now I stands out , worn pegs and the mudguard , it's a chrome one that's had better days but it's solid as a rock and the neutral light , seems a strange few for advisories .
I'm not moaning though , just I've never had anything close to them before .
He's a nice bloke , I always go there .

I didn't mention I was selling , I wondered off and had a full English .

Just remember that if we can get all the MOT info on your bike, then so can everyone else.

On my bikes previous MOT the only advisory was:-

"Rear reflector not central"

It actually had two reflectors, one either side of the centre line of the bike, I ignored it.
The same bike passed this years MOT with the same reflector arrangement but no advisories, go figure!

So I immediate changed my MOT centre forks have been fine ever since.

strangest one I had was either one washer jet wasn't working on the car

had a look under the bonnet and found the pipe wasn't joined so I put a bit of oversized pipe on it to join them works spot on now

or it failed for having a different size tyre on it once

I'm guessing they put different tyres on at some point and had to use the spare which had the oe tyre on

I'd bin them ( the MOT centre), they're obviously trying to con work out of you. I had this on a car once, it got an advisory for wheel bearings. Weird I thought, as there were no signs of wheel bearings going. I did 8k in that car before it had it's next MOT, it went to the same place and the same bloke tested it. Passed with no mention of wheel bearings, he obviously forgot what he lied about a year earlier Rolling Eyes After an extra 8k those bearings should've been worse, right?

7 MOTs ago I had an advisory for play in the rear shock.

Naturally, I did nothing and haven't heard anything of it since.

I got an advisory for front wheel bearings being 'out of tune'...
Eh?
"Well they make a noise..." He said... "but it's not very melodious...
- you can grease'em
- you can change'em
- or you could try teaching them the score of Sgt Pepper's... your call, really!"
I think it was a 'slow' day for him!

He gives the Seven-Fifty the same Advisory every year "Handlebars rusty"; Otherwise only one I ever seem to get off him on any of the other bikes is "Tyres are old"
