Awaits the EU mandating a "bulb removal warning bulb".

For future reference, do you have an OBD dongle?

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/162143945848 + https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.prowl.torquefree&hl=en_GB = diagnose and clear. You may find that it's a stored warning from a one-off wiring hiccup that you can just clear off. A friendly MOT tester will be OK with passing it as long as he can look at the dash and see no lights at that exact instant. Shhh!

ESP should be OK. There are some which will fail an MOT such as ABS, Air bag etc, but I doubt ESP would fail an MOT anyway.

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.

Get all technical, wire all of the lights that should come on and go off into the circuit that shows the battery warning light.

That only comes on at the beginning and then turns off.

If all the lights come on, you treat it like an engine management fault. Laughing

It's only red lights that are a bother to MOT stations, orange lights are not a safety issue.

My golf was one of the MK5 ones with the dodgy ESP that fell over.
VW now fit a free replacement part because it happened to so many. Maybe your Beetle has the same part?

I never bothered getting it changed as I turn ESP off anyhow and have never had a fail on the light, or even an advisory.

Would probably still appear as an advisory though, which won't look good if there's a chance of selling the car inside of the year.

It should do. Actually, removing the bulb should be a fail as well.

It's Paddy, he's probably got the car through it's MOT with the dashboard either removed or held in place with gaffa tape but nothing on it working!

By the time it's in print we (all of Great Britain) will have sailed away from the clutches of the European Bureaukratti. Dance!
