You 'can'... personally I wouldn't.. if you leave the stuff on long enough to get the paint off it usually melts and or distorts the plastic. If you dont leave it on that long.... dont get paint off.
IME old fashioned elbow grease is the best solution, and I tend to use a stanley-knife blade scraper to get most of the paint off, then fine sand-paper to get back to base plastic.
Or just sand to get key surface, dont worry so much about getting back to base plastic; plastic prime... and paint. Plastic prime is a key stage; its sort of like Air-fix model glue, and it etches itself into the plastic, and leaves a sort of tacky surface paint will adhere to. ____________________ My Webby'Tef's-tQ, loads of stuff about my bikes, my Land-Rovers, and the stuff I do with them!

Thanks all. Side panels look like they've been painted with red rattle can circa 1984 so I guess it's some kind of cellulose. It's flaking and there appears to be some silver paint underneath. I'll try rubbing down first then maybe a test patch with the nitromors if it proves awkward.
Cheers

Indeed. I'm hoping one of the irksome toss-pots will end up in the Ouse one day soon. ____________________ Now: A100, GT250A, XJ598, FZ750, SL1000

I'm currently tarting up me old thing and doing the side panels with a detail sander and elbow grease.
It's a bit of a chore so I'm interested to see if anyone has a cunning wheeze to make stripping them easier.
I've counted about 10 paint layers so far, 6 of em mine ____________________ bikers smell of wee |

I 'lost' the side-panel off the Seven-Fifty for a couple of months; hunted every where for it.... eventually found it in the shed... it was furry... WTF?!
Eventually Snowie made admission; a bit like the gouge mark she had left accross the petrol tank, actually, but, possibly in the same incident, she'd knocked the side panel on the floor... and chased it around the patio...
I have to have a LITTLE sympathy here.... she has T-Rex arms and big boobs... she does have trouble reaching around them... so kept kicking the side-panel along the patio trying to pick it up...... realized it was a 'bit scratched' and I would notice, as its black paint over white plastic.... so she had an Oy-De-Ugh... she decided to repaint it... which was all reasonable, until she got out the Nitromors to strip it first......
I'm not sure whether it went furry because of the nitromors, or her attempts to wipe the nitromors off.... but it didn't do it much good either way!
So she hid it in the shed and hoped I wouldn't notice!
Took a week of effin scraping to get the fur off that dang thing! ____________________ My Webby'Tef's-tQ, loads of stuff about my bikes, my Land-Rovers, and the stuff I do with them!

hi,
im looking for a decent paint stripper type stuff (but not for use on abs or any type of plastic) & always used to use nitromors until it went sh*te.
link to said alternative or brand name?
is it really any good?
cheers,
GAZ |
Lots of options on ebay - I think as long as it says 'for commercial use only' its the good stuff and works just like 'old nitromors'.
