 |
|
Hi guys
Trying to fit a new collector box on my 1989 VFR750 (RC24). Previously it had the Motad 2 into 1 silencer fitted straight onto the downpipes
I've bought from david silver spares the gaskets they carry for that part number which is a repro item I believe. They're the graphite kind. Problem is, the collector box won't fit with the gaskets on - they just get torn up. I tried gasket on the pipe then fitting the box, and gasket in the box to fit on the pipe and both ways they get shredded. I've gone through 4 of them now (2 sets) and can't get it fitted on
Is there anything else I can use to seal these up, or some kind of trick to it ?
Many thanks ____________________ CBR600 (1988) | GS500 (1989) |

It's Gungum. It cracks and falls out, it's not waterproof. ____________________ '98 VFR800 (touring) - '12 VFR800 Crosrunner (Commuting) - '01 KDX220 (Big Green Antisocial Machine) |

Regarding common or garden silicone sealant, it works very well.
I used it to seal the joints on my DRZ400, it worked fine, especially when you consider how hot the down pipe gets on that bike! ____________________ "Everybody needs money, that's why they call it money!" |

I'll use silicon over gum gun anyday
Gun gum's ok for wood burning stoves
If you have to apply it thickly and want it to set fast thoughout
not just have a skin develop with snot beneath,
mix in some cornflour and trowel it in.
S'wat I do when making boots & grommets ____________________ bikers smell of wee |
