Has it allways done this? has it got progressively worse?

Its not a good thing, start looking for a new gearbox/engine.. if its allways done it (allthough it shouldn't) and its only a random every so often then try to ignore it...

Make sure you are taking your foot comletely off the gear lever before trying to change into the next gear. If you are changing gear rapidly and don't allow the lever to return fully to the 'rest' position between times, the next gear may not engage properly.

My bike was having the same problem two weeks ago. After that it started to jump into neutral more often... even while taking a bend which was quite scary. Then it started to leak petrol. Mechanic says the 2nd gear went bad so you might have the same problem.

All this doom and gloom. Just to let you know that it may not be all that bad. My bike has done it since I got it. Usually it seems to be lazy foot syndrome, but it is an awkward gearbox. I have ridden other VFRs and they don't do it as easily.

Anyway, mine is still going after 48K so I wouldn't worry too much. If it gets worse, then get a mechanic, otherwise, practice getting it right. As Stinkwheel said, a positive foot movement helps no end.

If this was the case, every Jawa, CZ, MZ, Ural and motorcycle of former communist origin, as well as older BMWs are in need of serious mechanical repair from the moment they leave the factory. Laughing

If it were to be a mechanical problem, the most likley culprit would be a bent selector fork, in these days of horizontally split crankcases it should be a piece of piss to replace one. It takes me 4 hours to tear down a Jawa engine to replace a selector fork and the same to put it back together and that is a vertically split motor so the whole bloody lot has to come apart. On a modern bike, you should just need to turn the engine upside down and unbolt the bottom of the gearbox.

Mate of mine didn't even bother taking the engine out of the frame to do the gearbox on his bandit, just turned the whole bike upside down and left it resting on the handlebars like a pushbike Laughing

I know this problem. I have the 2004 RS125 (I think thats what you have to going by your avatar). It only happened to me when i was wearing my racing boots and couldn't feel the gear selector properly or when i just didn't knock it into the next gear properly. I don't think it's a problem with my bike, more a problem with my boots. I went and got a pair of gortex ankle boots from Hein Gericke and they are great for the bike. I have never had the problem when wearing my ankle boots because i can feel what i am doing a lot better.
